"A Pound of Flesh is an intriguing tale of acceptance, and understanding, and finding love in unexpected circumstances. What sets it apart from others is the way Sophie weaves storylines to build suspense before everything ultimately comes together, leaving the reader guessing and gasping until the very end." (J.M. Darhower, author of Sempre)
"[Sophie] writes the type of stories today's reader wants: beautifully created characters filled with emotion, and a storyline that sticks with you long after you turn the last page." (Tara Sue Me, New York Times bestselling author of the Submissive series)

Taking a job teaching in a prison is a far cry from what her overprotective mother ever wanted for her daughter. But Kat knows that this is where she can make a difference in someone’s life. And she never though she would meet anyone like Wesley James Carter.
Carter is far from your typical resident at Arthur Kill. He’s highly educated, well spoken and disturbingly gorgeous. There is an instant spark between him and the fiery Ms. Lane. So when she offers to continue to tutor him as a condition of his parole, he more than welcomes the chance to finally get her alone.
The attraction between them proves impossible ignore and being together puts them both in harm’s way. They can try to hold the world at bay and overcome any obstacle in their path. But when greed and deceit come looking for them – they can only hide away for so long.
Now THIS is an epic romance! Sophie Jackson has masterfully created the perfect hero in Wesley Carter. Yes, he’s gorgeous and mysterious. But he’s also so openly honest and real that you can’t help but fall utterly and completely in love with him.
With a powerful story and equally powerful characters, A Pound of Flesh is a phenomenon that you won’t want to miss…
All in all, an enthralling book about a prison inmate and the teacher who gave him back his life. Totally recommend!
What I loved about this story is how passionately it was written. This love story is more than a traditional romance. The slow burn of their desire isn't rushed and can be felt on every page. The intimacy of their relationship builds with every word they share, every glance they take, every touch they dare to steal and it's all as sexy as you'd think it would be.
The scenes are crafted with so much detail they give the reader a full spectrum of the depth of raw emotion that drove these characters to this point in their lives and whether they will break or mend.
It's one of those stories I couldn't wait to get back to, but didn't want to finish too fast. Author Sophie Jackson has captured my attention and I'm looking forward to the next release in the series.
Personal note: Love the original cover
I really loved this book. Kat and Carter had amazing chemistry and I loved the sexual tension between them. Wesley Carter is amazing. I'm normally not a fan of 3rd person and it was hard for me to get into this at first but then I wasn't able to put it down. The writing was really beautiful, especially the intimate scenes (which were super hot.) I really enjoyed this story and recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance! I'm adding this to my top books of 2015.
Sometimes it is harder to express yourself when you love a book to one you can pick apart. I've read this a few times now and am still struggling with the words to portray how I felt about it. The use of fate/destiny and soul mates within the narrative literally blew me away and made squishy things happen to my heart.
Told in third person narrative there is a lot of information to take in within the plot, although I have a preference towards first person narrative I can honestly say I don't think I noticed in A Pound of Flesh because the story hooked me so much.
Kat is an inspirational character, her compassion endears to people. SHe may have a privileged life but it has not made her spoiled in any way, she believes in giving back and rehabilitation. Witnessing her fathers violet murder at the hands of street thugs when she was very young has left her with a form of PTSD yet she still finds the strength to confront her inner fears and help offenders channel themselves into something positive.
I completely adored Wes and who wonderfully complex he was as a character, the more you learn about him the harder you fall ♥ Still waters run deep has nothing on Wes. Dealing with his own issues stemming from lack of affection as a child you can't help but want to mother him.
I completely loved the use of literature and the discussions Kat and Wes have on literacy. Beautiful and insightful Sophie links classic text and poetry to current events and contemporary situations - GENIUS.
A Pound of Flesh is utterly brilliant and a firm comfort for me.
