Bright and colorful with the words Power Bible in glitter print which immediately draws your eye, this first book in the series has been written for elementary aged children. It is not designed to be a substitute for the Bible but I can see it as being an excellent 'tool' for use with children that have never read a Bible and also as a reinforcement for children who are regularly exposed to the reading of the Bible. At 207 pages it is not a short story but great value for money.

A cast of characters is featured at the beginning of the book along with a short description on each. This allows you to immediately identify who is who. Scripture references accompany each section.

The creators have kept very close to the actual biblical accounts but have used creative license in how they have depicted the characters and the words spoken by them along with some of their actions. They have cleverly included some humor also. A couple examples are:

After Adam names all the animals he asks, "Huh? But isn't there anything like me?" He turns around to see two giraffes kissing and looks so sad. Next we see him asleep and snoring whilst God takes out one of his ribs to create Eve.

Abel is a shepherd boy but say's he won't cry wolf! Can't you just imagine your child smiling at this? I did and I am not a child.

There are five chapters in this book:
Creation to the Tower of Babel, Abram to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, birth of Isaac to his marriage to Rebekah, Jacob and Esau to the death of Isaac, Joseph to the death of Jacob.

SO was there anything in this book that I did not like?

We love Power Bibles! The first few pages introduce the main characters for the particular Bible (there are 10 - from Genesis to Revelation) using a picture (cartoon) and brief description. Then it opens with the "story" - in this case, Creation. The graphics are creative (remind me of Anime) interesting, and not too graphic (bloody, etc.) for a young reader/pre-reader. My (new) 5-year old loves to "read" his Power Bibles and take them with him to Sunday School, etc. Apparently lots of parents (moms) agree with me because the Power Bible has won awards - see the gold checkmark on the cover for details. The price point may be a sticking point if you plan to purchase all 10 at once. We started with the one my son was most drawn to (#4 - David & Goliath/King David) then requested more from buddies as birthday gifts - he now owns one through four (and the friends each wrote in the front cover for him) - we plan to include them on the Christmas list too. The set will be a very special collection when he's older!

How many days a week do I pick up a kids bible? At least 4 times a week for the past 8 years. I would say I have picked up at least 6 or 7 kids bibles (or more) in these years because they will fall apart from use. So you could say that I am picky when it comes to children's bibles. What makes a good children's bible in my opinion is one that is true to scripture, my kids actually pick up on it when I read from one that doesn't. I like a kids bible follows the original text as closely as possible. And honestly there have only been a few. This kids bible does include additional emotions but it flows and doesn't stick out. Also this bible includes a LOT of actual scriptures, which I love. I think kid's bibles are meant to help with the transition up and up until they are able to read a real one and The Power Bible works right in that plan. I would say that age range for individual kid reading would be 8-11 but for read aloud ALL ages. My kids gathered around this one and loved the illustrations. It is a comic book style which will appeal to many kids. I also like that includes the actual scripture chapter and verse i.e. Genesis 6:1-Genesis 10:32 at the beginning of each chapter for reference if you wanted to go and look it up for deeper discussion. There is an asian anime style to this which is popular. Finally I like it when children's bible include new facts from the scriptures because my kids have heard these stories many many times already. Big plus in my book.

I love this Power Bible. I ordered it for my 3 & 4th Grade students at my church, and my 12 yr old daughter read it in a day, she loved it. I would highly recommend this series.

I love this Power Bible Series. I gave "Part 1 from Creation to Joseph" it to a ten year old and his mother said he devoured it! Young people love the comic book format. The stories are engaging and colorful. Highly recommended! -Amos Smith (Author of Healing The Divide)

I was contacted by Green Egg Media to see if I’d like to do a review of a copy of the Power Bible, having not heard of them or the Power Bible before I went to their website and looked around and then I called my children over and asked them if they’d like me to review a copy of this Bible. When I showed them they all three said, most definitely yes, and when I emailed Green Egg Media back to let them know I’d like to review the 1st volume they also offered me a second – so wanting to make sure I got a bit of the Old Testament and the New Testament I also asked for Volume 8. They’ve been given the Moms Choice Award, and I can see why these are easy to read – in fact if your child struggles with reading these may help them as the words are few and are simple for ease of use and the cartoon figures make it engaging and fun, they won’t even know they’re reading! Volume 1 is 208 pages and measures 10 by 7.3 by 0.5 inches and Volume 8 is 196 pages and measures 10 by 7.2 by 0.1 inches. Both volumes have thick paperback covers that can withstand many openings and closings and thick pages that are meant to stand up to children using them repeatedly.

I read through both of these Bibles in a matter of just a few hours, that is how easy of area they are so while even my oldest, fast reader will enjoy them (she likes the kind of cartoon art that is used to illustrate) as will my non-reader and my not so strong reader. There is something for everyone in this Bible – whether adult, child or child at heart – this will have you reading the Bible in a way that is easy to understand but in no way takes away or add to the original Scripture.
