What the Critics are Saying About the OCZ ZX Series
"This power supply is a system builder's dream."
"OCZ has put together a very solid power supply in the ZX Series.Talking about operation the ZX Series is extremely quiet and you can barely tell that it is on, your CPU fan will be louder than this power supply"
"The OCZ ZX 1250W is certainly an impressive power supply and one which excelled throughout all our testing over the last couple of days. If you need a substantial supply for multiple high power demand graphics cards then this should certainly be shortlisted"
"The OCZ ZX Series 850 W can really deliver its labeled wattage at high temperatures. This power supply presents its main voltages closer to their nominal values than necessary. Noise and ripple levels were always extremely low on the +5 V and +3.3 V outputs."
"Throughout all of our tests, the ZX 850 performed quite well and exactly as advertised. Voltage readings were excellent all the way through and the ripple we saw on the 12V rail was equally impressive. Perhaps what sweetens the deal even more is the price"
As we would expect for a PSU with Gold Certification the OCZ ZX Series 850W unit is a well-built product. From the flawless paintwork on the outside to the use of branded components on the inside, there is very little to fault about the PSU. A quality PSU which excels in efficiency and low noise operation.

$180 from Amazon for this PSU is a steal. Not to mention, a mail-in rebate to boot. Compare it at $239 at Newegg. 1250-watt, 80+ GOLD certified. WOW. It is a special order item from Amazon, so it took ruight at two weeks to receive it. Absolutely sero problems installing it. Cables could be a little longer -- I bought an extension for the 4+4 Pin CPU connector so that I could run it behind the motherboard in my Antec DF-35 mid-size case.
I had always been an Antec-only PSU guy, but getting an 80+ gold certified 1250-watt PSU from a respectable company like OCZ for $180 +mail-in rebate sold me.
5 stars! This PSU has been working flawlessly for about a month and I couldn't be happier!
-Price. I bought this item for $179, I'm not sure if it was on sale or if the price was a mistake, but I bought two and wish I had bought four!
-Big beefy cables, well labeled.
-Runs cool and quiet even under constant heavy load (3x Radeon 6950 running a distributed computing project under full load 24/7)
-I should have bought more of them when I had the chance :P
If you ca get a good price on one of these, buy it. It will run whatever you want.
I highly recommend this PSU and now I'm an OCZ fan forever.
I can recommend the PSU, just be aware of the massive requirements of this unit and how to mitigate the whining issue if it arises.
Edit: Fan whine has increased significantly. I've isolated the problem specifically to the PSU (originally I thought it may have been the fan coolers on the GPU itself) or the CPU fan. The whine is so loud and annoying that it's literally impossible to ignore. I'm looking into my RMA options but it may be too late.
Final recommendation: Go with Corsair. I went with this power supply due to its high power output and price but skimped and will end up paying much more. If RMA doesn't work out, I'm going Corsair.
