Engineered for performance, design, value and extreme reliability, Power Pet doors are motor driven and activated by a tiny ultrasonic collar. Other electronic pet doors merely unlock a hinged panel, requiring your pet to push it open. That's something that a lot of pets don't like to do. Patented Power Pet doors open completely under their own power. They feature a translucent door panel made of a new super-strength, bulletproof resin. When your pet approaches, the air-tight panel quickly and quietly powers upward, disappearing into the stylish housing. Because the panel moves up and down and does not swing out, it can be mounted in hermetically sealed grooves for air-tight closure. This mounting arrangement makes it impossible for an intruder to kick it out. An automatic dead-bolt locking feature adds a higher level of security to your home. The result is the most secure pet door against intruders and stray animals. Your pets are empowered to come and go as they please. Their animal friends are politely asked to stay out. Power Pet doors are completely wind and weather-proof with an air-tight sealing system. Power Pet's directional sensing system is pretty amazing as well. The digitally coded signal emitted from your pet's ultrasonic transmitter collar allows the Power Pet to work almost like magic, opening only when your pet is on a direct approach. 4-way access control lets you select from In Only, Out Only, Full Access or Closed and Locked. Dual range controls let you set independent inside and outside activation distances. Panel size: 12-1/4 by 16-inch for pets up to 100-pound. Operates on AC adapter (included). Optional backup battery (model B12V-1.3) snaps into the battery compartment to keep your Power Pet door functioning in the case of a power outage, or if you prefer to operate solely on battery power. Door is also operated by Humane Contain RX-10 multi-function collar for X-10 dog fence system.
Engineered for Performance, Value and Extreme Reliability
POWER PET electronic pet doors are motor driven and fully-automatic, opening completely under their own power. The motorized translucent door panel is made of super-strength, bulletproof, military-grade resin. It won’t break, crack or discolor, even in extreme heat and cold.
Activated by a tiny waterproof ultrasonic collar (included), the airtight panel quickly and quietly powers upward, disappearing into the stylish housing. This method of automating pet doors is unique in the market, as most electronic doors simply unlock a hinged panel, allowing the pet to push through a flap.
Only POWER PET doors use a patented directional ultrasonic sensing system. This system has great advantages over magnetic or radio transmitter collars. Magnetic collars have a very limited range making it difficult to train the pet to operate the door. Radio systems have good range but open whenever the animal is within that range, even if the pet is sitting, sleeping or just wandering by.
Airtight and Secure
Motorizing the panel and causing it to move up and down allows it to be mounted in hermetically sealed grooves for absolutely air-tight closure, resulting in the best insulated pet door made. In fact, POWER PET doors insulate better than the best dual-flap pet doors, protecting against extreme cold and windy conditions. Mounting the rigid panel in grooves also makes it impossible for an intruder to kick it in. There's one, and only one way that the panel can be opened; it must slide upward. An auto-locking steel deadbolt makes that impossible without engaging the motor.
Built for Safety
POWER PET doors are intrinsically safe. They use an electric motor and cable drive to lift the door panel. The panel remains open until the pet collar signal is gone, indicating that your pet is clear of the opening. When the collar signal is gone, power to the motor is turned off and the panel is returned by the force of gravity only. Downward speed is reduced by an electronic brake applied to the reverse motion of the motor. This brake operates with or without electrical power. Because the panel is returned by simple gravity, the maximum force that can be applied by the panel when it is closing is limited to its own weight, about 2 pounds.
As an added safety feature, the door also has a sensing system that automatically raises the panel should it encounter an obstruction on the way down. This feature can be defeated in the unusual case that binding or other restriction slows the door closure to the point that it unnecessarily retracts.
Advanced Electronic Controls
A full set of controls and indicators give you maximum control over the door's operation.
AC or Optional Battery Power
POWER PET doors may be operated in three different power modes:
1. 110 volt AC wall outlet: POWER PET doors come standard with a UL approved AC adapter. Plug the adapter into a nearby wall outlet for continuous operation. With dual jacks, the cord can be connected to either the left or right side of the door.
2. AC with battery backup: You may purchase an optional rechargeable battery for use along with your AC adapter. If your household electricity should ever fail, your POWER PET door will automatically switch over to battery operation. When power is restored, the AC adapter will automatically recharge your battery.
3. Full battery operation: You may also operate your POWER PET door with the battery only. This eliminates the need for the AC adapter or any electrical power connection. However, you will need to recharge the battery periodically (recharge interval varies depending upon use). In this case, we recommend that you purchase the optional charger kit with 2 backup batteries. With two batteries, you can use one in your POWER PET door and keep the other in the charger. When your door battery runs low, just swap.
Multiple Sizes and Installation Options
POWER PET doors are available in two sizes: Medium for pets up to 30 pounds (8-1/4"W x 10"H opening), and Large for pets up to 100 pounds (12-1/4"W x 16"H opening).
Standard Doors for Wall or Door InstallationPOWER PET doors mount flush to any door or wall. The most challenging part of installing the POWER PET door is cutting the hole.
If the unit is to be mounted in a door up to 1-3/4 inches thick, there is no framing necessary. The included outer frame provides a finished look to the opening.
If you are installing your POWER PET door in a wall, it is advisable to build a frame around the opening or order the optional wall adapter tunnel.
Sliding Glass Patio Door Inserts

I feel completely ripped off. Shame on you Power Pet.
First, I was a bit disappointed at the construction. For this price point I would have expected something other than flimsy plastic.
Second, within a month of buying the door the retractable plastic piece started randomly going up and down. I called their customer service department to inquire. The rep described it as a known issue. The solution was to disable the auto-retract safety feature. I asked when a permanent fix was forthcoming and she told me that disabling the safety feature WAS the fix. Baffled, I asked if she thought that was a good solution. She told me I could return the product for a refund if I wanted to (after having cut a hole in the side of my house) in that pseudo-polite, passive-aggressive manner that makes me want to rub broken glass in my eyes. I hope that she was simply someone who needs to be fired rather than a typical representation of the company.
Third, as others have noted, the collar and "fob" are extraordinarily flimsy. My standard poodle destroyed hers within a few weeks. Compared to other dogs, she is very gentle so I was surprised when it just fell apart. I was able to click it back together a few times and get it working, but this last time I saw some sort of yellow-ish corrosive looking goo inside it. My wife called their customer service and they are sending a replacement. Meanwhile, the poor dog is very confused. :)
Fourth, the fob is NOT directional. We have fought with sensitivity settings until we are cross-eyed and whenever the dog is close to the door, it opens.
Had we paid $50 or $75 for this product I wouldn't have even bothered with this review. But, at ~$400.00 (including wall extension, extra batteries, shipping, etc) I am fairly disappointed.
I hope others find this helpful.
I live in an area with lots of raccoons, possums, coyotes, etc. In addition I am always concerns that a large dog door will be too inviting to burglars and other bad folks. My dog is long and lanky, so there is no other option other than installing a large dog door. I searched and searched and searched for a dog door that offers something other than your standard flap. This was the only product that came close. I like the idea that a specific collar is needed and that it isn't simply motion controlled. I also like that the sensitivity can be adjusted. So I can have the door open as my dog is a few feet away or very close. The dog tends to walk by or lay by the door when out in the yard. So I can reduce the outdoor sensor to it isn't constantly opening. The unit itself is pretty long, but not too deep. It was no more difficult to install than any other dog door. I just used a jigsaw to open the hole a bit more for the needed size. I have both the battery and electrical cord option. I currently use the battery since I don't like how the cord would hang in the space I have. I have to charge the battery about once a week or more and it takes an hour+ to fully charge on average. I do like the door and hope it lasts. There are no competitors out there that have anything similar to this.
Now for the bad. Despite the great design of the door, the quality of the product is severely lacking. My first order arrived with one of the senior knobs already snapped off. I looked it over careful hoping that it had just come loose, or maybe I could even superglue it back on. But the neck (?) where the knob connects to the inner workings was toothpick thin, possibly thinner. I am still concerned that such a thin flimsy piece of plastic is all that I have to control the sensor. It should at the very least be metal. I dread the day that I bump the door with my hips as I bring groceries in and snap it off. Or a kid or clumsy person doesn't take care. I contacted the company (The pain of dealing with 3rd parties and not Amazon) and they agreed to send another one out ASAP. The next day another employee called and left a message saying they would not send the replacement if I did not call them immediately to give them a credit card in case I did not send the defective product back. The woman was strangely aggressive and terse, the opposite of the nice woman who took my original complaint.
One I got the replacement door I installed it right away. Within about a week the tab that holds the battery cover in place snapped off. It is also a pretty thin flimsy piece of plastic. About a week after that I started noticing the door would open when the dog was exciting, but would only open sometimes when the dog tried to come back inside. After a few days the outside sensor stopped working completely. Which really sucked since temperatures were getting into the 80s and I needed to make sure the dog could get inside. I called the company again and they sent me instruction on how to reset the door. That did not work. So they sent me a package that had a new sensor in it. It was not really complicated to replace, but it was a nuisance for sure. The door was only about 2 months old. Once the sensor was replaced and the door remounted, it worked great. It still works great in fact. The door is kinda loud, so you won't want to install it anywhere that will annoy you.
Overall it is a great concept, and the only automatic dog door like it out there. But they manufacturing is sooooooo bad that I've had multiple parts break and/or need replacing within the first few months.
