The kids are messing around with the Ouija-type device again (hopefully they will never learn), while a miniature statue/idol is making the rounds amongst various doomed Power-seekers. You see, it's Destacatl, an Aztec force-to-be-reckoned-with that leaves fatalities in it's wake, but keeps luring the curious to it's rediscovery. Throw in a flighty reporter who can't be bothered by all this occult nonsense, her old boyfriend who comes back to sniff around for a possible reprieve, and I should, but I can't leave out the Dad who has a perfect bit part as sarcastic old coot that dismisses the young man as nothing less than an undesirable loser.
You won't believe your eyes...well, okay, you probably will, but I found it loads of fun anyway. While no one in the cast is outstanding in their field, they all turn in memorable performances and the action keeps the pace coasting along at a good clip. If you love schlock like I do, this may come across as higher-end schlock, but a lower-end straight-up horror film.
Enjoyable on a "good way to kill a Saturday night" level. Low budget and it shows, but that's the way (uh-huh) I like it. It was shot on film, and released in 1984, and I would watch it again.
films from that era (early to mid 1980's) I hadn't seen - until now. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it's reasonably well made and there are lots of old school special make-up effects. Worth a viewing, especially for 80's horror fans.
