I'm running a couple fans off this and I'm not getting any high frequency noise, so that's a good thing. I also run a crock pot off this with no problems. I ran it past 12.4 volts and the alarm didn't kick on, maybe those people's batteries bad bad cells. I installed mine with 6 gauge wiring, so maybe that's why I'm not having these issues. Spend the .50 cents a foot and do it right.
For the money and the 1 year warranty I don't see how you can go wrong if you need a small inverter.
At the time of purchase this unit only had a couple of reviews and cost $89. I figured for that price I'll give it a try and if it works I'll buy the 2000watt version later. The 2000watt version was under $200.
The inverter arrived on time, it's light weight, has a nice basic design and comes with its own clip on cables for fast attachment to a battery. I connected it to my car battery, with the engine running, and plugged in three household fans one by one. Each fan uses about 70watts. They ran smoothly and quietly. Fans are a good item to try because they hum on modified sine inverters - they didn't hum with this one.
I then went on to test the maximum wattage. I have two hand drills. A small one that uses 220watts and a larger variable speed drill that uses up to 270watts. That's a total of 590 watts and should be doable for this inverter with 1200watt peek power. I removed the fans and attached both drills. The small drill ran fine but when I started up the variable speed drill the inverter shut down even before I got the drill to full speed. The Kill-a-watt read about 380watts. The inverter's red light started blinking, the alarm rang and I was forced to shut everything down. I left it for a half hour and then overnight but it never worked again. It's like a relay had malfunctioned because it would flick back and fourth between the green light and the red light with alarm.
I wrote the seller and they responded swiftly but with little technical knowledge. I checked the exterior fuses, tried a few things and then filed for a return on Amazon. I live outside the US so it cost me extra to ship it here plus $15 to send it back. The seller told me they refund up to $30 for return shipping but after it was done I learned that it only applies if you ship the item directly to them. I seems that when you return something on Amazon it goes back to Amazon and not to the original company. So, what does Amazon do with all this faulty stuff that gets returned?! In any case, this odd policy cost me the $15 return shipping.
If this product had 200 reviews and many satisfied customers I would consider the possibility that I got a lemon but because it has so few buyers I have to conclude that its just another poor quality product coming out of China. I can't recommend it.
