The second in Armentrout's Titan series is hotter than the first. Josie, the perfect complement to everyone's favorite Apollyon with a bad rep, really comes into her own and shines. As for the smart-aleck golden boy himself, his status as paranormalbook boyfriend of the year remains a sure bet. The dialogue and banterare typical Armentrout, and there's nonstop action and some downrighthysterical moments too. RT Reviews 4.5 stars TOP PICK

THE POWER brought all sorts of feelings out. It was like a big ole reunion and I couldn’t contain my excitement!
THE POWER picks up where THE RETURN ended. Having destroyed one of the Titans, Josie practices becoming a badass so she can find other demigods to take down the other titans, while Seth discovers his darkness is looming closer to the surface. And if that weren’t enough, two old friends return, changing the dynamics between Seth and Josie.
I have always been a big fan of Seth’s, even when he was being lead around like and evil minion. But this version of Seth is one that’s really hard not to love. He’s still a badass, but he’ll go to any lengths to ensure Josie is safe…even if being safe means being away from him. He steps up. He puts others before himself. He proves to those in their little group that he can be trusted. He’s turning into that hero you can’t help but love and it couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
And I loved Josie. She’s coming into her own. Embracing her powers and learning what she can do. She seems to hold onto her humanity while at the same time always questioning if the path their following is the only way. And she continues to see the good in people. That trait proves important towards the end of the book, because it’s that faith she has in people’s goodness that is going to help her and the other save someone she loves.
My review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the return of Alex and Aiden. They’re secondary characters to Josie and Seth, but they have an important role to play. Of course, just the fact that they were back had me all giddy.
THE POWER lived up to my expectations. I quickly devoured the book and then moped around in a book hangover. It’s a fast-paced, glorious read that is full of action sprinkled with Sethie hotness, laughter and emotional angst. Now, how many months for the next book?
Oh holy book hangover from the Underworld!! Seth continues to find new ways to break my heart, put it back together again and melt me into a big gooey pile of mush, and I am already salivating for the next book in the series.
Now that Josie's powers have been awakened, her training is more important than ever, but every time she taps into the aether he feels the darkness swirling within him trying to take over. He struggles against it to do the right thing, but when he makes a mistake with her after one particularly powerful moment, self loathing rushes back in and he immediately puts the brakes on, pushing her away in an effort to protect her from himself. Of course in typical Seth fashion he doesn't share with her what happened or why he completely does an about face so he destroys Josie's heart in the process. And in typical GUY fashion, he doesn't realize it- but it is made even more poignant by the fact that Seth has never had anyone truly love him so he legitimately doesn't recognize the emotion... insert breaking heart here! He may be 22 years old but he never experienced a real childhood or family bonds that most take for granted so he is more like a child or an awkward teen in many ways.
Once he finally lets himself believe Josie truly does love him, the heat really rises as they make up for lost time- WHEW! Yet he can't help feeling as though history is still on repeat and that everything is going to go downhill very shortly - and he isn't wrong. Amid a campus breaking down into violence between the pures and halfs, Josie is trying to continue her training while searching for the Librarian her father instructed her to findto finish unlocking her powers. She meets several important people who will be familiar to you from Greek mythology along the way who issue her dire warnings that make no sense to her at the time, but it won't be long until she understands. And just to add insult to injury, two people Seth had hoped never to see again reappear on campus adding to his discomfort and Josie's stress. Seth knows he is on borrowed time before Apollo comes back to send him to parts unknown or the gods finally bore of his existence and send him to Hades to start his eternity of servitude. Josie is determined not to let that happen, but he freaks out when she tells him her plan as he knows how cruel the gods can be when making bargains. Yet a nymph who constantly pops up at the strangest times offers a cryptic tidbit of wisdom to Seth, dangling a faint ray of hope.
There were some wonderfully light and funny moments provided courtesy of Apollo as well between his epically bad timing for interrupting Josie and Seth's alone time and his delivery of an infamous demigod to assist in the search for the hidden demigods on earth who by Apollo's own admission is no fun to be around. I couldn't stop laughing at some of those moments!
Josie and Seth have an amazing connection, but it goes deeper than merely love. While he still doesn't realize exactly what the darkness is that he carries inside him, she is his balance in every way. Every time he feels as if he is being pulled into the darkness, she is the light that breaks through and pulls him back especially when things start to go completely sideways toward the end of the book. I still have a suspicion that their connection may be more important than it seems so far, but that remains to be seen!
All in all, I absolutely loved The Power! Josie's transformation over the course of the book is wonderful as she finally starts to gain confidence and becomes more assertive. Seth's love gives her strength and I have a feeling she will be a force to be reckoned with going forward. It's going to be a long torturous wait for the next book so I will have to content myself with re-reading The Power (again!) in the meantime to soak up the awesomeness that JLA has graced us with. Now go grab your copy and enjoy it for yourself!
I have come to love Seth and I love his character growth. It is crazy how far he has come and how much he has matured, but he is still the same Seth we know and love in many ways. He is still sarcastic and snarky and his dialogue cracks me up. He really broke my heart in this one and I’m just not okay.
I also love Josie and I love how she has adapted to this world. She is really coming to terms with her new found abilities and she steps up to the plate. I also love how she fights for Seth and shows him constantly that he is worth something. She is a wonderful character.
I of course loved being back in this world and seeing old friends again. I’m not going to lie, I swooned hard when I saw Alex and Aiden again. I’ve missed them so much. But my favorite is still Deacon. That boy owns my heart and I wish we could be best friends for real. I just love him and his humor and he is such a genuinely good guy.
The Power kept me glued to the pages and was the perfect blend of action and schmexy times. Seth is basically sex on a stick, but he is also a badass ninja and I love that combo. This book hit me right in the feels and I’m not gonna lie, I shed a lot a few tears. I love these characters so much.
The Power was a great follow up to The Return and the wait for book three is going to be agonizing, but I know the wait will be worth it.
