I am a vegan and recently started a fitness regime including endurance road cycling. While I have been looking for a vegan dietitian in my town, I bought this book for some insights on what to eat to maximize my cycling performance and workouts at the gym.

Honestly, folks, if it's vegan sports nutrition information you want, go to the source: Brendan Brazier's Thrive, which the author quotes often enough in her book to make you question why she wrote this, because she adds absolutely zero to the discussion on what to eat to help you become a better athlete, or to help maximize your workout routine.

The author begins by assuming you, the reader, know absolutely nothing about healthy eating. She gives you all the low-down on eating whole foods that you could get in any popular magazine on any newsstand in any town. It's all basic, basic stuff, and she spends about half the book on stuff you probably already know: more fruits and veggies, people! Eat less processed food!

She also has long, long lists of questions that you are supposed to ask yourself. I'm sorry but I just didn't need all that space taken up by mundane questions. I've already done enough self-assessment to undertake a lifestyle change, eat healthy and work out regularly. I came here for information, not a series of inane quizzes that are meant to be "insightful". What a waste of time!

If you are a vegan, do understand that she does not advocate veganism in this book. She asks you to listen to your body and do what feels right for you, including eating animal flesh if that's your bag. So why she calls the book Power Vegan I don't know.

I highly recommend Power Vegan. Especially if you want to get completely healthy on the inside and out. Rea Frey cuts through all of the clutter so that it's simple to learn about living a healthy life. With all of the exercises, recipes, and information, every person, vegan or omnivore, athlete or average Joe, anyone who reads this book can have success. The other great thing about the book is that you don't have to read it from the very beginning. You can look up what you are interested in and flip right to it. Jump around. Find a workout you want to do in the morning and then flip to what foods you should eat before you try those exercises. She has really outdone herself. There is no confusion. And you don't have to eat a certain way or lead a particular way of life in order to gain something significant from this book. Something that will no doubt better your life. And, to top it off, there is zero talk about removing things from your diet and the way you eat. There is only adding things to make you feel better.

I've been veg for over 20 years and an athlete my whole life. Rea's take on things is spot on! This is a GREAT book for people who want to explore veganism as well as vegetarians or vegans who want to improve their level of health.

This might be the best book I've purchased!!! It's full of everything I was looking for. The author makes plant powered eating simple & I love that. She gives excellent workouts to try & quick energy boosters for them. The only thing I wish it had more of in it is recipes. Other then that I'm a happy camper:)

Power Vegan: Plant-Fueled Nutrition for Maximum Health and Fitness

I've found Rea Frey's book to be so inspiring and in less than one week's time, it has become my favorite summer read. It is now my "go to" book for quick, uncomplicated answers before preparing a meal or heading to the grocery store.
Unlike others I've read, this book is not a lecture on what not to eat, but in fact, just the opposite. She simply meets you 'where you are' and offers suggestions on what can be added to your diet to make it a more healthy option. And her recipes are easy and delicious!
Rea Frey's book is appropriate for anyone who is looking to improve their lifestyle through diet and fitness. Regardless of your food preferences, have fun with this book and explore. You won't be disappointed.

With recently having become a vegan and also having a son with various food related allergies, I have found this book to be an extremely powerful resource in our home. Power Vegan is one of the best health books I've ever picked up. Rea's writing style is simple and to the point, without a lot of nonsense or judgement. Her recipes are simple and easy, not to mention she gives tips on how to eat healthy on a budget, which is essential when you are living on a small income, but still want to eat well. Her knowledge of nutrition and overall wellness is obvious. I pull out Power Vegan at least once per week to try new recipes. I would recommend this book to vegans and meat lovers alike!!

I am not a vegan. I'm not even a good vegetarian! I just eat what I believe to be good for my body, and try to have as little as possible of what isn't. Power Vegan is inspiring. As soon as I started reading it I stopped eating meat, fats, and processed food because it made me excited about veggies. I have started listening to my body. I felt significantly better after only 2 days, and I'm dropping weight. I wasn't even trying! I just wanted the tips, information and recipes! Rea is brilliant, and the book is easy to understand. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
