Basically, this thing is an SBC that you slap onto a big paper plane that you fold. You connect directly to it via wifi and you send it commands via the app and it sends you a live stream feed. You can fly it FPV if you want (I haven't gotten around to this yet, but I shall soon!).
The battery provided is a 550 mAh battery, but you can find more of them on their site. I actually tracked down slightly higher (750mAh batteries) of the same connector and dimensions on eBay, but I actually haven't noticed too much of a flight time with them. The bulk battery charger is also a must. I take like 4 charged batteries with me to the field and swap as needed.
The key here is to not experiment too early. I really recommend getting used to the stock folded plane they provide you. It flies very well in calm conditions, but it actually flies even better with a slight headwind breeze to help it gain altitude. In fact, I've flown this in 10 mph winds successfully.
I've gone from 40 second flight averages to 6 minute averages, coming down only to change batteries. Flying in a large open space is recommended, because the paper plane doesn't turn on a dime.
Once you master the basic flying shape, you can move on to making your own paper plane designs. Its pretty fun, seeing what will and won't fly. You can use really any building material as you see fit.
One downside is that the module is NOT open source, and it is not advised to open it up and tweak things. However, there is a great SDK that Powerup provides. It contains samples for iOS, Android, and Unix systems to communicate with the module.
All in all, a very great product. If you want to get into RC flying or fun in general and you have the space, this is an excellent activity.
