PBL05: The PBL05 is an insulated band-style pail heater specifically designed to fit a 5 gallon bucket/pail. The heater is built for use with 120 volts AC, drawing 1 amp thus producing 120 watts. It has a preset thermostat set to maintain a maximum temperature up to 145 ºF / 63 ºC (± 10 ºF/5 ºC). The PBL05 band-style pail heaters allow you to safely control the temperature of expensive chemicals and other fluids; it delivers a barrier of uniform directional heat where it’s needed most – preventing fluids from freezing and maintaining optimal temperatures. This innovative heat-spreading technology insulates, protects and maintains heat in a wide variety of applications. And it's certified by ETL to UL & CSA safety standards.

Good Overall Product With Questionable Engineering Choice

This Powerblanket unit is nicely made and works well. It gets to temperature quickly and maintains it. The heat seems to be pretty evenly distributed across the "inside" surface. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars - initial performance. My only complaint is that contrary to the photo that accompanies this listing, the cord on the one we received protrudes from near the top of the end of the blanket. It makes no sense at all and the cord hangs down (gravity works that way) to where we have it connected to a heavy-duty extension cord. The weight of the unit's own cord is pulling down on that connection where it goes into the edge of the blanket. It's an obvious weak point and I'm sure is going to cause a short over time due to the continuous (and unnecessary) bend and hanging cord. There's no need for this. The blanket is supposed to be used in an 'upright' position around a bucket. The cord should come out of the blanket at the BOTTOM edge of the blanket's end, near the "skirt", not from the top edge.

We just ordered a second unit and it will be interesting to see if the cord on the new one comes out of a different spot.

Love this thing!!! I use it to warm my soaping oils and it's marvelous. I have it wrapped around my buckets and at around $100 it's way more cost effective than using the water heated tanks (which are like $800). I will be buying more of these for my additional pails.

Takes forever to get water to warm up

I bought this specially to warm water in a bucket to shower with when I go camping. It can't even do that well. The blanket itself doesn't fit snug on a 5 gallon bucket. As soon as I move the bucket the power blanket slides off. I filled a bucket with water and checked the temperature. It was 65F. After 8 hours I returned to check the temperature and it was 73F. Not a big change especially when I'm expecting this blanket to be capable of getting water to a temperature hot enough to comfortably shower with. After all it does say it's internal thermostat is set to 145 degrees. I'll have to see how long it has to stay on to get water to a temperature above 90F

Many of other customers are thrilled with the way this PBL05 pail heater performs and safely and efficiently heats their product including water so I'm hoping you wouldn't mind providing us with some additional valuable feedback about your application so we can ensure your complete satisfaction.

Water generally takes longer to heat up inside a container versus most other liquid or viscous products because water molecules must be made to move faster within the water, this requires breaking hydrogen bonds and the breaking of hydrogen bonds absorbs heat. This process is why it takes a little longer to increase the temperature of the water but we assure you, if you leave the PBL05 pail heater on your pail for awhile longer it will increase the temperature to a comfortable shower temp.

If this PBL05 doesn't meet your time to heat water expectations, we would gladly custom design a specific pail heater using one of our other patented heat spreading technologies. We have the ability to increase the watts per square foot and also use a higher internal thermostat that will decrease the time to heat your 5-gallon pail of water.

Works To Heat Water For Bathing In a Pinch!

I'm actually using this to heat water in a bucket for showering. I have to do without a water for a while as I correct what turned out to be a horrible install job by a contractor about a month ago. Because of my schedule it's taken me several weeks, working an hour here and and an hour there, to work through it..This heater blanket appealed to me because of the low power consumption, making it safer to leave plugged in without monitoring, which I couldn't ever do with one of those 1000W submersion heaters. It takes a long time to heat the water, but as I shower in the morning and my wife in the evening, it works out. Great product for a weird need!

I actually use this for a very unusual purpose. I raise bonsai, and have to winter some of them in a small vinyl greenhouse. The greenhouse naturally maintains a temperature only about 4 degrees above the outside temp. So far we've had a very cold season, and its only January!

Finding a safe, inexpensive way to keep the temp in the greenhouse above freezing, has been a challenge. It's a very humid environment, so electronics have to be sealed. Gas or propane is not good either. I found this, and to put it around a sealed 5gal pail of water. The heated bucket consistently puts off enough heat that I think my trees my survive the winter. It's not a perfect solution, but it's the best I've found short of building a serious greenhouse.

Soap makers Buddy!

I use this for making soap. My recipe has a large amount of hard betters and I would have to reheat the entire bucket a small pot at a time and mix it all back in to make the oils ready to soap with. Now all I do is plug this in and wait a few hours, while I can do other things, and my oils are ready to go! I love this thing. I will probably buy more. I wrapped it around a 5 gallon bucket I reused from some bulk oil I bought. I wish it had a red light somewhere on it so I would know it is powered on.
