Solar-powered decorating lights - no outlet needed. Now decorate anywhere without dangerous extension cords or need for an outlet. Sun charges string of 100 lights by day, turn on automatically at dusk and run for about eight hours. No energy cost. Great near road, around mailbox or lamp post - now you're not limited to near by outlets. 35' length.

They work. One string worked after 48 hours of charging. Strangely the other one didn't . But after a couple of sunny days they both now shine brightly at night for several hours.
So they work as expected. Simple decorative lights. They are not bright enough to cast any light on a walkway though.
My one disappointment was that I was misled by the term "35-foot". I imagined that the solar panel would be on one end, and then there would be 35 feet of string. This is not the case. The solar panel has a few feet of unlit wire, and then the wire splits to two separate strands of lights. So basically the solar panel is in the middle the lights. This made my original decorating scheme unfeasible, but I was able to make do.
Since I live in a city in upstate NY, I don't get full sunlight all day. Each panel probably gets 2-3 hours of full sun, and filtered sun the rest of the day. Still, they stay lit for at least 5 hours if the sun isn't out. They come on when it gets dark, and go off when the battery (900mA rechargeable AA, included) runs out of electrons.
These worked out so well for me, I just ordered two more sets. Note that these are bright-white lights, not warm-white. I personally wouldn't use them for Christmas lights as I prefer the glow of warm-white LEDs, but those are generally more expensive. For my purposes, these work like little miracles. I would highly recommend you to get some and do something creative.
These solar string lights are great. We placed the panel directly under the tree that the lights are wrapped around (its the only place we can guarantee the dogs won't knock it over) and even though it doesn't get direct sun much of the day, these little lights light well and last into the wee hours of the morning.
Please remember when ordering that these are solar powered and LED lights. They are not as brilliant as your standard plug-in light strings. And, as one should expect given they are LEDs, they have a typical bluish tinge to them. But, for solar lights, these are delightful!
Cons: The string was shorter than expected (I had no idea what 100 lights meant in terms of covering our front hedge). Also, the lights are pretty expensive for such a short length, but we'll probably end up buying another one anyway because we like the idea of solar.
Added note on 12/5/10: The lights do not stay on as long as expected. Even after a sunny day with direct sunlight, the lights stay on no more than five to six hours. This is fine with us, however, because we usually turn off our lights when we go to bed to conserve energy anyway.
