PERFORMANCE: For my fully stock, 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty, I ordered the following program: STOCK, HIGH IDLE, 50HP, 75HP, VALET, ANTI-THEFT. I run the chip at 50HP and notice a significant difference between stock. Basically, when you run the stock truck below 1,200 RPM, it struggles with any load (even gentle uphill).
However, after the chip install, you just hit the gas, and bring it up to the meat of where the engine likes to be. Truck also now seems to have a power-band like a 2 stroke motorcycle - when you get near 2,500 RPM, and you stomp the gas, the thing just takes off. Crazy!
A COUPLE OF ISSUES WORTH NOTING:
1. The HIGH IDLE is at 1,800 RPM instead of 1,200 RPM as some of the posts state. For me, it seems like a pretty strong load on a cold engine, so I don't think I'll be using this setting (I welcome any feedback on this). Regardless, when I contacted the company, the technician said that this is the normal setting for this chip, while their other chips run at 1,200 RMP on the HIGH-IDLE setting.
2. Hot switching this device scares me. When I click from STOCK through HIGH IDLE into the 50HP, the engine hickups, and the service-engine/wait-to-start lights briefly illuminate. I make sure the engine is off before I change settings.
FUEL MILEAGE: Regarding fuel mileage gain, I got 19.6 mpg on 24 gallons with 85:15 hwy to city while going around 70 on the highway with Archoil fuel and anti-stiction additives. I'm not sure what the impact is because I got this chip soon after I purchased the vehicle, and I don't feel like running a whole tank through the stock setting just to compare.
INSTALLATION: Installing is simple (less than 2 hrs, but I took my time). I was a little concerned about sanding too much off the contact (got it to silver), and damaging the PCM board during the cleaning process. Also, technician stated to use starter fluid (on a Q-tip) to remove some of the coating, and you need to be careful so you don't get it all over the PCM board. I used a step drill to cut the hold in the PCM housing, and mounted the control knob to the rail under the knee board (under steering wheel).
A great buy. Worth triple.
Now here's a few install notes that will help because when I first installed it it did not work.
Make sure to have your battery cables fully disconnected because you do not want to damage your computer.
Secondly you will need to scratch off the contact points on the top and bottom of your computer I used a very small knife because there was a quite thick and dried gel coating over my PCB board. They send you a Scotch-Brite Pad but when I only did that it did not make connection and I did not feel any power gain on any setting.
Once I cleaned off the contact better with a knife and then Scotch-Brite it it I installed the Chip And I was so amazed it's not even funny.
Now I still am going to install the larger turbo and 3 inch intake piping but I am not going to upgrade the injectors and I am only going to upgrade the high pressure oil pump to ensure the life of my injectors.
Trust me I am so happy with this chip you would think they would have paid me to write this review and that means it's a damn good product in my opinion.
When you install this chip click it to the second setting once you've started your vehicle if it does not rev High it is not working that's how I tested mine. The first setting is stock II setting is High Rev for cold morning warm ups and three four five and six are all upped horsepowers.
Now that my truck is pouring out black smoke when I floor it I am happier than ever also knowing it's getting plenty of fuel!
Buy it 100 best upgrade ever
