me as most helpful were "Observing your Emotions" and "Sitting with Difficult Emotions". Can you imagine a world where people
were mindful of their emotions before acting upon them? I am a recovering alcoholic. Early in recovery I had a Zen teacher.
She sat with me during our sessions of meditation. Two things were extremely helpful at that time. I was able to learn to sit
with my emotions and let them be. I didn't need to run away from them, didn't need to try to hide them, didn't need to act on them.
They were and I was. Secondly, I learn to recognize my thoughts, emotions, "monkey mind" and just let it all be with out attaching
to them. For an alcoholic and addict, this was a major move toward freedom. You mean that I don't have to act on what I feel?
You mean I don't have to numb my feelings by booze, sex, shopping, etc? Wow. That was a profound moment(s) in my life toward
