I especially love the pages that invite you to write a letter to your younger (or future) self. It's the kind of mindfulness journal you'll want to write in and draw in for many months. Such a great way to connect with yourself. It inspires me to be more creative and more self-loving. I can't wait to give it as a gift to my friends - it's so thoughtful and beautiful.
Examples: "How have heartbreaks helped me find my tribe." I don't think they have?
"This is how I practice luminous freedom" what even is luminous freedom? Paying my electric bill to have continued access to my lights?
"this is what my center feels like". I do not even understand what that means.
"How can discipline be a surrender to the feminine?" Gibberish to me.
"Consider a moment you felt challenged, afraid or sad at age nine. See yourself hugging that child you were. Now from your perspective today write a song, poem.....etc..." My memories of age 9 aren't very distinct from 8-10-11. I can see the value in processing past experiences but this is just too heavy handed for me.
If you love art but are a bit more earthy than mystical I don't believe you will be satisfied with this book either. For me it's utterly unapproachable and I don't even know anyone I could give it to.
This journal recommends meditation in each section and if you are not a meditator some of the phrases my seem confusing but even if you are not there is message after message that we can all understand:
"This is what I admire most about myself today"
"This is how it feels when I believe in myself"
"This is what home feels like"
There are sections where you are asked to write a letter/poem to your 6, 9, etc. year old self. This may seem pointless and strange to someone who had a happy childhood but for those of us who didn't, these sections, (and most of us will never actually write the letter) can help to remember that dark time with the knowledge that things got better - a healing experience that makes letting go of past hurts easier.
I bought this for myself and read through each page before beginning any writing inside. I realized immediately that this would be a perfect gift for a friend who had been treated badly (and wrongly) at work. Her confidence had been shattered by people who's opinions don't matter. She doesn't meditate or journal but I knew that the messages in this book would, simply by reading them, help her to recognize her value and importance to herself, the world, and the many people who care about her. She loves it and I know she has been uplifted by thinking about the simple phrases that are so beautifully presented.
I would have no hesitation in buying this again and again for anyone I thought needed it or simply likes beautiful things.
