Absolutely splendid for advanced practice of the dharma, especially students of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy/religion who have lots of experience with meditation based on compassion/wisdom.

Philosophy without practice is incomplete. Practice without theory can lead you astray. Practicing Wisdom clarifies the ultimate argument for altruism and the Boddhisattvas way of life.

This book is a MUST for any serious Buddhist student. The book is a commentary on the 9th Chapter of Shantiveda's "A Way to the Boddhisttva way of Life". His Holiness is very clear, specially on a subject as difficult as this one.

From Madhyamaka point of view, H.H.Dalai Lama comment each one of the stanza in the nine chapter of Bodhicharyavatara. This very academic exposition is used by Shantideva in order to refute the beliefs and doctrines of other buddhist and non buddhist doctrines. Each chapter contains one specific group of stanzas according the subject of refutation , accompanied by other general teachings of His Holiness. Each one of them concludes with a very useful contemplative meditation exercise for the reader.

Altough very interesting the subjects exposed here are totally archaic, they belong to an academic and religious era extinct long time ago from the ancient India. One can learned the same essentials teachings from a Lama without the need of so much complex and intricate concepts. Probably the book will be delightful for all those who likes philosophical treatise.

Words and practice of great value to me personally-- something to read, study and meditate on. Practical truth in modern, understandable English.

Not his usual vague inspiring book. This one is more reflective, with thoughtful exercises after each section to help work in the ideas.

I've been working through "The Way of the Bodhisattva" (Padmakara Translation) for many months using Pema Chodron's "No Time To Lose" as a study guide. She said the 9th chapter on Wisdom deserves a full book so she didn't address it in her book. I bought "Practicing Wisdom" to continue this process. I'm barely getting going with His Holiness's book but it is exceptional. It has more depth than some I've read by him. Those are meant to be more easily accessible I presume. ("Transforming the Mind" is one exception which I know of.) In the first chapter of P.W. His Holiness addresses some Buddhist basics. This is material with which I have a fair amount of familiarity. Still I have highlighted and gone through this chapter at least 3 times getting deeper insight each time. As I progress I am continually challenged to receive the material both mentally and through skillful means. I will be working with this book for many months and I'm certain it will be excellent guidance for me. (perhaps more to come later)
