I really enjoy reading about our ancestors who went West for better lives and sought the Lord daily while also allowing others to see Christ in them. This group is a large book with at least 3 different books with one broken into 2 parts.
The first Historical book is "A Rose Blooms Twice" and is about Rose and her heartaches and her redemption. This is actually the 2nd time I have read this & was worth reading again.
The 2nd is "Wild Heart on the Prairie" Part 1 - is about Jan Thoresen when he arrives in New York with his brother. And tells of an almost daily existence of them and their families as they traveled west and the hardships they encountered after they settled. Very descriptive telling of preparing the ground for crops and their enlarging a sod house to make room for 2 families and their animals. But also is filled with sorrow, deaths, discord in their church as well as happiness. Part 2 - is really interesting. It is the story of Rose when she moves there Yet this is from Jan's view.
The 3rd book is "Joy To This Mountain" and continues the story of Rose and Jan & their daughter, Joy. I can only say Wow because so much happens - After much loss, arson burning down their store, etc, Joy feels led by God to help those who were lied to & led into a life of prostitution but also to hep those who chose this but want out - adventure, love, sadness, danger and then the impossible happens.
The third story is about their daughter Joy. She and her husband run a very profitable business however, another man wants their building and its location! The same man that wants her building is also into sex slavery. How will the Widow Joy handle the loss of her husband and a call of God on her life to rescue these slaves! Will family and faith be able to help them conquer the evil in their town?
But beyond the familiarity of place, the universal themes of loss and live, God and grace are portrayed vividly and tenderly by this author.
Being an avid reader of many years, and many genres, I am rarely moved to tears any more. But this series has touched my heart in deep ways.
Rose, Jan and Joy became more than characters in books to me. They live and breathe in the skillful hands of Vikki Kestell. I am purchasing the rest of this poignant and heart touching series as soon as I finish this review.
