Welcome to my Author Page! I'm delighted that you clicked to find more info about me.

My newest book is The Prayer Shawl Chronicles: Stories of Unlikely Connections & Unexpected Gifts. Knit with love, prayer shawls show someone you care about them, think about them, and hold them in prayer. This book is a collection of inter-related short stories that will make you laugh, cry, and maybe think about your faith or ministry in a different way. It's set in a fictional Episcopal Church in Tennessee.

At least two great stories are bound together by every prayer shawl – the story of the crafter, and the story of the recipient. Though these two people are connected by one prayer shawl, they may have vastly different stories. The knitting craftsperson who spends hours making a prayer shawl and the man or woman who receives it may never meet or have anything in common. They may never cross each other’s paths. Yet their stories are linked together by prayer and a piece of knitting.

Each story in The Prayer Shawl Chronicles is a fictional tale of someone who finds herself in need of healing - and how that quest for healing ultimately helps someone else heal as well. Unexpected gifts appear, seemingly out of nowhere. Unlikely connections are made, sometimes across cultures and even continents, sometimes between people who might never imagine themselves connected in any way – just like the work of the Holy Spirit itself.

I write and knit on my farm in Knoxville, Tennessee. I am a wife and mother of three children, two cats, and a dog. A graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary, I served as a Justice & Advocacy Fellow of The Episcopal Church and wrote Christian formation curricula for children and youth as part of this fellowship. I am the author of two novels and four books on Christian formation.

My newest nonfiction book is "Considering Birds & Lilies: Finding Peace & Harmony in the Everyday World Around Us." I wrote this book towards the end of my time as an Environmental Stewardship Fellow of the Episcopal Church. This book includes many thoughts and insights I gained while writing my two books to introduce children to creation care, "Earth Our Garden Home" and "Wild Faith."

"Considering Birds & Lilies" is a product of my daily walks around my farm in Tennessee. As soon as I step outside, I'm able to forget all worries and concerns. I've also gained many insights in troubling problems by observing the trees, flowers, and animals living on my farm. In researching early Christianity, I realized that many of the saints and early Christian spiritual leaders also found a deep sense of spirituality while in nature. I wanted to share this tradition of nature-based spirituality with contemporary Christians, using everyday language and a conversational tone. (This is by no means an "academic" book!)

Between drafts of books on spirituality and faith, I dabble with novel writing. My first novel, "Ginger's Reckoning," was written in the late 1990's and based on my travels to Europe during my younger days. My second novel, "Runaway Kitty" was written as a means of coming to terms with my adventures as a mom of teenagers. It's written from the perspective of a 15 year old girl living in the Knoxville suburbs, but most of my readers of this novel have been parents and teachers of teens. I hope you'll take a look at these two novels.
