From the Back Cover

Having a life-threatening illness is a constant reminder that today is precious. Prayers and Promises When Facing a Life-Threatening Illness offers encouragement and hope to those who suffer and those who love and care for them. Written by a fellow pilgrim on his own journey with Lou Gehrig's disease, this powerful and inspiring devotional guide offers thirty short reflections to nurture your faith and boost your strength. Each reflection is a small dose of spiritual truth to start or complete your day. Morning selections include a brief prayer and reflection. Evening readings are based on God's promises to encourage and enlighten you. Some of the prayers and promises include: * God, remind me that there is more to life than this disease. * God, give me strength to believe that you can heal me. * God, give me something to laugh about. * God, help me to leave a legacy for my family. * God, I don't feel like praying. After completing the thirty-day cycle, Dr. Dobson encourages you to repeat it again and again for continued spiritual nourishment that is needed during this time.

Verg honest and transparent. My friend who first gave the book to me, and just died from ALS (Lou Gerig's disease), said "This is how I feel" in referring to to Dobson's openness with his emotions about having that termknal disease and how God met him in that place. Great help for angone suffering a serious illness or those caring for or about someone in that place.

I bought this book for a friend who is dying of cancer. I thought it might bring him some inspiration and comfort. I thought he would accept what the author was saying because the author is dying from an incurable disease, too, so he has special credibility on the subject. A lot of insight and honesty in a small volume. The material is organized as daily devotionals--a reading for the morning, a reading for the evening--so it's not too much to deal with if you happen to have a serious health issue as well and are already coping with a lot. You don't have to be dying, though, to benefit from this book; it has nuggets of wisdom for everyone. I thought the book was so good on a sensitive subject that I bought extra copies and put them on a shelf, in case I have other friends in the future who might benefit from it. However, I hope those copies stay on the shelf and I never have an occasion to give them out.

I just bought this book for my parents after my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Each day has refreshing truths dealing with circumstances and emotions revolving around a life-threatening illness. I appreciate Dobson's honesty. I just ordered two more copies, one for a sibling and one for me to keep at home. Great book for the one suffering from the disease and for those surrounding that person to understand what is going on emotionally.

Those with life-threatening illness face a unique challenge spiritually. There is no greater test of faith than when we are asked to trust the promises of God when everything is wrong with our health and circumstances. Ed Dobson addresses this challenge from the trenches, and is honest about the despair he has experienced, and the times that he's been unable to pray. At the same time he shares Christ's faithfulness to him, and the hope that we have in Christ.

I gave this book as a gift as a former minister of mine posted an excerpt on Facebook. I sent my friend the book and she thought is so wonderfully soothing at the beginning and end of each day, that she ordered five more copies to give as gifts.

I read the book before I sent it out to a brother with ALS. It's my prayer that God will help this brother to rely more on His life as the author. I appreciate the straightforwardness and deep thinking shared by the author. ALS is described as a "terminal, non-irreversible and terminal" disease in this book and it reminds me of the aging process that everybody is experiencing, even adorable babies. I am sure I will think more of this book as I grow older or one day I am facing a terminal disease myself.

This is an excellent book and I would recommend it for anyone dealing with a terminal illness. I recommend it even if you aren't dealing with a terminal illness. It helps me to understand some of the struggles of those who are going through difficult times. The author is very transparent.

A friend gave me this book while I was battling breast cancer. It is such an easy read and it encouraged my heart like none other, . Since then, I have given it to a countless numberof "fellow sufferers." People who do not even like to read find it easy and an encouragement .It is the perfect book for someone traveling a difficult road..
