You know that feeling when you're reading a book and enjoying it and then something out of the blue is thrown in that makes your Kindle tremble in fear that it's about to go airborne? 94% is when that occurred to me and my Kindle while reading Precarious. I will explain the 94% at the end of my review.
I'm a fan of Bella Jewel's, her writing is different, it's dark, quirky and sexy. I hesitated starting Precarious because of a few reviews I had read (yes I read spoiler reviews because I cannot handle certain things that have become popular in some books).
Precarious is a fast paced read. Ash and Krypt do not have an instant love, but they quickly realize there is something between them, something they have never felt before. Their chemistry is hot.
Ash she is a tough prison guard. She loves her job and is instantly drawn to sexy Krypt when he is brought in for murder. Which confuses her because she has never been attracted to an inmate before. I LOVED the fact that Ash was tough and she was very confident in her sexual desires. I was ecstatic that in Ash we got the rare ALPHA female who isn't naïve, timid, who is tough but still feminine and compassionate and who doesn't bow down to the big bad bikers. She gives as good as she gets. Which is why what happens at 94% pisses me off. Krypt is guarded, a badass and he won't talk about the murder he has been accused of. The male prison guards seem to have it out for him and Ash realizes it so she keeps her eyes and ears open to try to see what's going. Ash is told Krypt is being transported to another prison because he got into a fight and she is to accompany him on the transport. They are ambushed and Ash ends up on the run with Krypt. This leads to the discovery of all is not what it seems and Ash's life is in danger and suddenly the inmate becomes the protector.
Precarious is a sexy MC romance and I think fans of MC romances will enjoy it. I enjoyed it up to 94% then I hated that one scenario. I'm going to have to play mind games with myself and insert different players in the ménage so I can get my love back for the characters before I read the next book. And YES I will read the next book because I do enjoy Ms. Jewel's writing.
94% - At 94% a ménage happens. I was totally turned off by it. I didn't even find the scene sexy and I am a fan of ménages. But not when the ménage isn't organic to the plot and this one was not. (Rhayne I used that word just for you). Even if it would've happened earlier in the book, before the I love yous were exchanged I don't feel it fit the dynamic between Ash and Krypt. I understand that the ménage was most likely meant to be the catalyst for what happens next which sets up the next couple for the next book. But there were other ways of making that happen. This ménage hurts a friend of Ash's and Ash is made to look stupid by saying she didn't realize it would hurt her friend. It just DID NOT FIT Ash's character at all, Ash is smart and part of her job as a prison guard is reading people, so there is no way in hell she could've missed the clues that her friend was giving off about this other character throughout the book. As a matter of fact the ménage took me from loving Ash's character to not liking her and I don't think there is any way to redeem her in my mind.
Ash is a prison guard who during an escape is taken hostage by Beau aka Krypt and his MC. There is a war between the Jokers and a rival MC and Ash ends up caught in the middle with a target on her back. Ash was a bad-a** chick, but she also had a vulnerability and feminism about her that I liked. This book was almost entirely told from Ash's POV and I wish I'd had more insight into Krypt and his thoughts. I liked him for the most part, though be becomes a bit of a douche when his ex is brought into the mix. I really liked Ash and Krypt as a couple though and thought they were perfect for each other. Their chemistry is through the roof so be prepared for some scorching hot, rough and tumble, hard-core sex scenes.
WARNING: This is an erotic novel, and right near the end we're treated to a threesome. Just letting you know in case you're not fond of that sort of thing. I wouldn't have minded, but it just didn't feel right to me. I couldn't believe Krypt would share the woman he loved or that Ash would jump right on the idea, but that's just my take on their personalities. Ultimately it was this M/F/M menage scene as well as the whole love-triangle thing with the ex that kept me from loving this one. There was just enough action, drama, and heart-pounding moments that made it an unforgettable read though. I'll definitely be reading the next book in this series soon. It wasn't perfect, but was still a really good, unique and riveting story!
This takes erotic to a new level. It's raunchy and wild. It's questionable that the cock piercing would not cause soreness in Ash from the hard thrusting. Beau may enjoy hard sex but he should consider what that might do to Ash.
The story is about tough sex with fighting. When Beau says he likes it rough he means he enjoys being beaten, bitten, scratched, and hit during sex.
I wish the plot had been more original. Ash was feisty and sassy and tried to deny Beau.
Many contradictions with Ash's character. Ash starts off as a feisty independent woman. When she meets Beau she is consumed by anger and lust. Ash is constantly fighting with the bikers trying to prove she is not weak, yet she runs to the trees every time Beau hurts her feelings.
Sex is used as a weapon to seduce and forget in this story. To use the authors words, "could it get any worse?" Sometimes in the stories dialogue it does get worse.
The dialogue is not spectacular and at times its cryptic.
Apparently these biker stories have very little storyline to work with. The men enjoy their women and the sex is rough and the girls a plenty. The men enjoy drinking and fighting. The men enjoy riding a motorcycle. The men are always rivaling another biker club. Not very original.
