One of the best of the Predator series...
Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2019
A friend of mine said he watched this movie and liked it, so I went ahead and bought a copy as I rarely have time to drive to a theater and watch a movie. I have to say that I was surprised the movie was better than most of the others in this series. The original, first one, is still my favorite. I don't go in expecting to watch an Academy Award winning movie, but in this case as far as I'm concerned this is one of the best of the Predator series and I wouldn't say that unless I really like a movie, and I liked this one a lot! This isn't a waste of time or money if you liked most of the rest of the movies in this series. A couple I watched once and don't own and won't watch again, but this one, hits at #2 or #3 with me. Enjoy the carnage fun!

I really want them to make another predator movie. But they need to fire the 8 year old who wrote this script, then fire the 10 year old director, then fire the 12 year old producer, and lastly fire the studio that allowed this to be made. I hope heads rolled after this movie was made, it was utterly one of the worst things I have ever watched, and I watch crap Sci-fi every week. For instance, the movie predators with Adrien Brody, that is a 5 star oscar contending movie compared to this. So many good actors, just the worst direction ever...

My favorite part of the entire movie was at the very end of the credits and I began to realize that my life was once again my own, and that whatever new pain I might experience at some point, at least THIS specific painful experience was, at last, over.

What a waste of time money and effort for the Predator franchise. Lame writing, lame screenplay and lame acting, this movie is awful.

The action was just ok, the story was horrible, the humor was forced & meh. I don't understand how such poor movies can be made with as much money as goes into them.

Was a poor revival of the original for a start... but then they cram "climate change" down the pipe. The whole point of a movie like this is to just accept that it is fun and silly. Sorry but the politics ruined it.

For the life of me I will never understand why so many people get themselves all worked up for the next "Predator" movie then turn around and hate it. These haters seem to think the next movie is going to win an Oscar. Really? A Predator movie? They are slasher/horror flicks nothing more. You go to see humans get ripped to shreds. PERIOD!
As for the movie I only wanted to know more about the Predator species and I got quite a bit. I was very satisfied with that aspect. I did find it strange that the predator species is just waiting for humanity to destroy itself when they can just get rid of us at will. The action sequences are vastly superior to any of the movies that came before and I am looking forward to playing this movie on my surround sound system. Ok. I'm done...

I felt Predator was a very entertaining blockbuster film.
This film has a more humorous bent than the previous one. I really did like Predators, but I prefer the tone of this film. It matches more of the over-the-top feel of the original and 2. They do add a few more jokes than those two, and a little too many of them have a frat bro/trying-to-be alpha dog mentality that can be a little exhausting. Still overall, it's pretty funny.
There are some really impressive and violent fights. Current film technology is utilized to have the Predators do things they couldn't in previous films.
The cast is all-around likable. Heck, I think this is the first time I found Olivia Munn fully utilized in a film.
Admittedly, the pacing can be a little uneven at moments. There are points where the back-and-forth between characters could've been shorter and the scenes are rushed, including a death of a main character that's hit-and-miss. Also, the final scene setting up the sequel feels tacked-on and inorganic.
Listen, if you're not interested in a humorous Predator film than this won't be for you. Personally, I went to be mindlessly entertained, and I was.

Loved it!!

Don’t understand most of these negative reviews!
Yes it’s clearly not a remake of Predator 1 & 2, it’s a continuation and a more modern addition to the Predator story.
I have seen them all and this is by far my favourite, yes I even preferred this over the Arnie one.
My daughter, who had never seen the first ones, loved this too.
It was well acted, great script, bigger and badder predators, the predator dogs were brilliant, great humour, what’s not to like?!
(Personally loved the idea of the Aspergers kid being more evolved, as someone with two kids on the spectrum this was a great addition and rarely seen in movies)
10/10 for me :)

The 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray disc version of this film has greatly improved sound and picture quality over the standard Blu Ray disc version when played through a 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray player and a 4K ULTRA HD TV with HDR (High Dynamic Range).I would have also of liked a The Predator Blu Ray 3d disc released as well as this was released in cinemas in a 3D option.A Blu Ray 3D disc version was not released anywhere in the world so it cannot even be imported from elsewhere,Annoying!!!

Disappointing reboot of a much loved classic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 28, 2019Verified Purchase
Well, I had to buy this really. Already have the Blu-ray versions of the other 3 plus the AVP as well.
This is a reboot too far though, and has plot holes you could drive a bus through although I do not want to give any spoilers so cannot (will not) go into too many details.
All I can say right now is that all of a sudden Predator has gone all PC, and they are only here because of climate change rendering the planet "unsuitable for human life" in one or two generations and they need our DNA in order to "upgrade" themselves as if they were Cybermen from Dr. Who!! And then it gets sillier.......so for everyone who thought AVP2 was a bit silly, you ain't seen nuthin' yet.
Best avoided.

Hunters and hunted

A new movie in the Predator series of films. One aimed at getting the franchise going again.
You could probably get into this without having seen the first three films [and definitely without either of the Aliens V Predator ones] but you will probably get more from it if you are familiar with them.
The Predators are aliens who hunt for sport and for the thrill of it. And they are very good at doing that as well. Special ops guy McKenna [Boyd Holbrook] has a close encounter with one. When this puts his family at risk, he and a ragtag team are the only ones who can save the day. But the stakes might be higher than they suspect, and it might be the whole human race that are risk...
This tries hard to be like a movie from the 80's, and thus recapture the dynamics that the first Predator had. Action, characters with camaraderie and humour coming from their interaction. Although it does do a bit more of that than said first movie did. It being the present day though, and not the 80's anymore, it does let a woman character be strong and get into the action as well.
It also tries to pull together all the elements of the franchise so far, and forge a new path for it to go forward as a result.
It succeeds at this. And it is watchable escapist hokum while it lasts. But it does show the signs of being a film that might have had a lot going on behind the scenes writing wise, thus some things don't come together quite so well as they could have. And ultimately, it doesn't succeed at being essential. It is as mentioned perfectly decent to watch, but you won't come away from this really desperate for more to follow along after.
A good bit of three star escapism all in all, but ultimately nothing that will live as long reputation wise as the original.
The dvd begins with a generic anti piracy ad, then a generic dvd one, but you can skip both via the next button on the dvd remote.
Languages and subtitles:
This is yet another dvd that just says English for both on the box, but on checking the disc turns out to have more;
Subtitles: English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian, Swedish, Estonian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Lithuanian. And one that I wasn't able to identify.
Languages: English. English audio description. Russian. Ukrainian. And two that I am afraid I could not identify.
Extras:
Deleted scenes. Which can be watched all in a row or individually. Three of them, none longer than two minutes. None are desperately essential. And one is just a couple of outtakes. Unclear if they're meant to be funny or not. But they're not.
A touch of Black. A good ten minute long overview of the whole project.
Predator Evolution.
The Takedown team.
Two features, running eighteen and fourteen mins respectively. The first looks at the visualisation of the creature onscreen. The second at the main cast and characters. The first of these has some interesting behind the scenes stuff, but both go on a bit too long and get a bit dull.
Predator catch up goes through the highlights of the first three Predator films, covering each in three mins.
Gallery. A lot of stills and production art that can be looked through.

My best choice in a long time
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 15, 2020Verified Purchase
This is a fantastic movie and a very positive sequel in the top quality Predator franchise.
I had seen mixed reviews, but as I have the rest of the series on DVD I took a chance with this one, and that was my best choice in a long time.
The visuals were super, none of the dark shadow stuff that made the second Alien v Predator so difficult to watch, this was a full colour bright-light, Hollywood quality production with a fortune spent on special effects.
The storyline was interesting and fast moving with some nice twists, and some quite biarre moments of humour. The ending was exciting and convincing, with a real brawl and plenty of weaponry.
In my opinion this is lots of fun and, at this price, it gets 5 stars for value.
I don't suffer fools gladly, and some of my reviews can be scathing [as with the dreadful new Star Trek series] so please believe me when I say that this is a top quality film. Ignore the embittered reviews, that some have given, sit back in the right mood to have some fun and just enjoy this escapist romp.
