Possibly the pinnacle of Arnold's non-Terminator film career, Predator was a 1987 steroidal action adventure. This has everything you could want in a period action flick: guns, helicopters, guns, explosive explosions, guns, massive muscles, guns, and more guns. It also has plenty of classic one-liners: "I ain't got time to bleed!" "Get to the choppa!"
Predator also boasts Stan Winston's special effects, which garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. Augmenting the classic FX were new optical effects; the Predator's camouflage and its thermal imaging are still captivating. Suspenseful pacing aided by the Alan Silvestri score keeps things moving, and the film is just plain fun, even if it's completely unbelievable. Arnold was right when he said, "I liked the idea of starting out with an action-adventure, but then coming in with some horror and science fiction."
Lots of bonus features on this 2-disc Collector's Edition, including a not overly great Director's Commentary.
Predator is a better movie, First Blood is a better film. Does that make sense? Who cares, watch both.
No Spoilers from me: The plot is fairly straight forward, a special ops team gets dropped in the jungle to rescue the crew of a downed chopper and things just do not go as planned... The special effects are fairly good and hold up well enough.
Again, not very deep but a lot of fun when you are just looking for an action sci-fi to watch.
