Woohoo, I got my tray for free! People are always so subtle about that. What's wrong with being clear as ice and saying FREE, score! In exchange for an honest review. No problem. Read on.

You can skip to my shortened how to use at the bottom of this if you like.

I've got a lot of ice balls.
A lot....I keep thinking I'll start letting other members of the household actually use them as they were intended..as ice chilling spheres of ice but they look soooo cool en mass in my freezer bag.....I just keep making more and more and more....
Ahem...
Basically since I got my ice sphere tray I have been making ice spheres non stop. Learning about the tray and it's quirks. Every time the ice is frozen I de-mold, pop them in a freezer bag, start again.
For all those who were worried that 4 spheres are not enough...of course it's not, so you make more. Plan a bit in advance and fill a container or bag in your freezer with as many spheres as you want. If you are having a larger get together or something then multiple trays will amass your ice ball horde even faster.

For our little fridge freezer I can make about 3 trays of spheres a day. That means I get up, the ones that froze over night are de-molded, I start a new batch, later in the day I remember to de-mold those and freeze again and by bedtime another set.
They are big chunks of ice so expect them to take longer to freeze than a standard ice cube tray.

Okay, first off this ice cube tray is not user friendly straight out of the package.
Let's just get that out of the way. I gotta ding a star for that. If you use it as directed in it's instructions with no extra effort or thought you'll be frustrated. But it's not a lost cause.

This is a fun product that isn't quite ready for prime time. Anyone saying otherwise is lying or working under laboratory controlled conditions. There's nothing that prevents the liquid from running in between the mold for the four spheres. No seals, no "lip" or edge, no additional structural rigidity to keep liquid in the top half of the mold from doing what all fluids do - gravitate to the lowest possible point. You know, the reason rain falls, streams run down hill and rivers empty into the ocean. Water goes down, unless it's actively prevented. And in this cool little device, it's not. But don't completely write it off! Many times products work much better when you use them in ways not intended. This is VERY much the case here. Here's just a single suggested idea - Buy a tube of silicone caulking. Fill the OUTSIDE edge of the bottom tray with silicone and let it cure. Do the same to the top. DON'T GET ANY INSIDE THE AREAS YOU FILL! If it's sat level and filled evenly you should get round sphere's almost every time. It's a structural integrity thing... If you followed my suggestion, your product should work much more effectively, but, you've "broken" it meaning no warranty or returns. There's a lot of other ways to break it so it works. But, do so at your own risk.

One of many similar ice ball molds on the market; some produce almost perfect ice balls while others crack, break up or come out with distorted shapes. The Stunning Gadgets falls in the mid-range of overall quality.
The specifications are documentd in the sales promo and do not need repetition.

I tested the mold, after first wahing it in the dishwasher, it came out intact. I filled the closed tray with filtered water, through the 4 spouts, to capacity and placed in refrigarator for about 3 hours. The two halves of the mold were frozen stuck together but were easily separated by pouring hot water over the seam. Four ice balls, 3 with small nipples, were easily extracted. I repeated the process two more times, with better shaped spheres - a short learning curve. I made Pomegranate ice balls to add to fruit juices or sodas. In my experience the ice balls melted at the same rate as ice cubes.

The Stunning Gadgets ice ball mold is a conversation piece and source of fun for kids and adults. An improvement would be to have a large tray of a minimum of 12 ice balls.

I received a free coupon for a complimentary sample provided for testing & evaluation, but with no obligation to write a review. This is not a barter deal. I have no financial or personal connection with the manufacturer, seller or their employees.

I first want to state I was offered this product in exchange for my honest review. But that doesn't effect my ratings, or my opinion, of the product. Honestly, one of the only reasons I accepted this review request was because my mother loves making ice (she doesn't like drinking something unless it has ice in it) and my father likes to keep his liquor cold, but hates when it gets watered down by regular ice cubes.

I thought, why not give this a try? I'm glad I gave this a chance because it's actually a pretty niffy product. I like that the product was made out of silicone, because that made the ice cubes come out easy. The instructions that came with the product were a bit difficult to understand, but after a few attempts at making the ice cubes, well, perfectly round, I managed to accomplish that. Just try a bunch of different methods, one will eventually work for you. I tried some tricks some others mentioned in their reviews, but some of them didn't personally work for me.

All in all, I really enjoy this product and my parents like using it as well. Fours stars, well deserved.
