The Crème de la Crème of High Capacity Bird Feeders

By far our favorite bird feeder for offering black sunflower seeds to our local bird neighbors. The clear plastic is thick and the mounting/attachment to a pole is well thought out and strong. This feeder holds plenty of seed, and lasts for weeks even with an occasional squirrel visit. While a bit pricey, we have had one of these for over 10 years and it has survived the sometimes wicked weather and ever changing seasons here in Georgia. You can count on the seed always to stay dry.

This is our third one of these, the last two staying with our old property to allow the new owners to start feeding with the best.

My First One Is 20+ Years Old and Still Kicking

I have two of these feeders and my husband just asked me "how old is this one?" Thinking back, it must be at least 25 years old, if not older. I think we've replaced the baffle on it, but other than that, rain or shine, sun or snow, it continues to perform. I've tried other feeders, but nothing works as well as this one. I've never seen a squirrel on it, it doesn't get nasty, and it's easy to use. I finally broke down and bought another. The price tag is a bit high I think but the thing is a workhorse. It holds a lot of seed, so make sure you have a good branch or hook to hold it and at first you think the baffle is wonky, but it's not. Just sit it on there and let it go. I've never had one bit of trouble with rain, and we get a lot. I also have a ton of chipmunks and squirrels and they don't even look at it anymore. It truly is the best.

Update 2022: We have two of these and they are still going strong. Birds love them, seed stays dry, and squirrels don't stand a chance. It holds a lot of seed so you're not out there every day refilling. I do have to bring them inside a few times a year and give them a nice cleaning, and then they look as good as new.

Great feeder, attractive and has a very generous seed capacity.
The only downside is that the clear plastic it is made of won't take much punishment.
One very windy day my feeder fell to the ground and the plastic cracked in two places, rendering it unusable.
I loved the feeder so much otherwise, that I got a new one...same feeder.
As long as it's VERY securely mounted and you don't drop it, you should be good. It is rather expensive to replace.

Edit: Considering that I am among a number of people who have bought this more than once due to its fragile nature, I have reduced my stars from 4 to 3. I really do think having to replace it was not entirely my fault. I will update this review after I speak with the company.

Edit #2: 27March17 - Over the years, I have purchased this a few times because, even though it can easily damage when it falls, it is terrific when it is doing what it is supposed to do. It holds more food than most other feeders. I have never had any problems over 7 years now with any kind of leaking, and the squirrels which I do have in my yard have NEVER successfully gotten past the cover to get at the seed. Sometimes you have super smart squirrels but most of the time you just have to be smarter than the squirrels and make sure it is mounted away from anyplace where they can jump directly to the feed tray. As far as breakage goes. It has broken a few times on me, due to high winds falling and just recently, because it is rather heavy with seed, my clothesline broke and it went down. When it falls it WILL break.. BUT...the company will replace the broken pieces for you for FREE (you pay shipping) if you call them. I have had many years of good use out of the two purchases I've made and this company stands behind the product when it breaks so I am going to have to adjust my rating back up to a 5 considering everything.

I bought this feeder recently because I had bought one for my dad about 3 years ago (due to him fussing about the squirrels) and he absolutely loved the feeder, I'm pretty sure it's helped lower his blood pressure not yelling at the squirrels anymore (although now he feels sorry for them and feeds them corn)! I don't have any nearby trees in my backyard, so I hang my feeder on a shepard's hook, and the feeder I originally had outside, I noticed the squirrels could easily get to, so I immediately went and bought one of these. The pros to this feeder is that it holds a lot of seed so you don't have to fill as often, attracts all kinds of birds (is great for cardinals), it shelters them from rain, and the feeding dish is has a nice depth to wear if the feeder starts to swing for some reason, all of the seed doesn't go flying out. The only cons I would say is that if you do have it hanging high, and it falls, parts can break (because it happened to my dad - just one part broke), but if that happens (if it's secured well it won't happen), you can contact Arundale directly and they have replacement parts so that you don't have to buy a whole new feeder, and the only other con is that since I have it hanging on a shepards hook, the squirrels can still climb the pole and get their hands in it by reaching over (but they can't get to it from the top). But this part is my own fault, because the feeder tells you to make sure you have it 1. high enough off the ground, 2. far enough away from the tree trunk or pole it's haning from - and even though I did see the squirrel one time, I haven't seen him as much as I did at my other feeder, and again, since the feeding dish is so deep, when he got into it, there was hardly a loss of seed. Bottom line is I would highly recommend this product.

We bought this one to replace two smaller ones that we were not really happy with. This feeder took a long time to arrive for something that was supposed to be in the warehouse. It is really well made and the capacity is perfect for the way we are set up. The only thing that they could do to make it better is to include an adapter for using it sitting on a pole. We added a couple of wire props and several wraps of duck tape to make it level and stable. The birds love it and we are looking forward to using it for a long time. I would definitely recommend this feeder. If you have a lot of birds you would like to feed this one will definitely work. We live in Alberta, Canada and in the winter you don’t want to go out to fill your feeders every day especially when it is -30+ or snowing hard.
