I use my Canon as a video camera (I daily vlog on Youtube), which can drain batteries faster than just taking pictures, here's what I've gathered about them so far:
-They hold about the same amount of charge as the official Canon battery has. I haven't tested them to an extreme to see exactly how long they hold up for, but I can vlog for 2-3 days with just one battery.
-They charge in the official Canon charger.
-They are great for backups or even as your main battery.
[!! UPDATE !!]
Originally rated these 5 out of 5 and I'm now dropping the rating to 3 out of 5.
I've owned these batteries for over a year now and the performance has decreased over time, they no longer hold a charge as long as they used to, even when I try very hard to not overcharge them. I can record about a day's worth of vlog footage before this battery dies. Whilst the official Canon battery will last me a few days worth of vlogging.
These batteries are now strictly backups if my Canon battery is dead.
I haven't found anything wrong with these batteries yet, so no cons at the moment.
For around $5, I recommend that you buy and give these batteries a try before you go buying the expensive OEM Canon batteries.
Thanks for taking the time to read/watch this review.
Both batteries in my two-pack performed identically. I.E.: poorly.
This presents a real problem. I would like to believe that there is a decent, non-name brand battery out there that works in my camera, given the price difference between the generics and the canon. I don't have a lot of time to try out all the myriad options however, and I suspect you probably don't either. I am going to go out on a limb and say, Caveat Emptor: cheap is frequently cheap for a reason.
The canon battery is painfully expensive, but it also works as one would expect a professionally produced piece of hardware to do so. Save yourself the irritation and humiliation of being duped by a snake oil salesman, and buy something you can trust; you like me are likely trusting the ability of your device to record your family's memories. A camera with a dead battery will not do so.
