Shannon is a million-copy best-selling author, international speaker, certified life coach, and advocate for healthy sexuality with a master’s degree in counseling/human relations from Liberty University. She has spoken to youth, college students, and adults since 1989 and her passions include: Challenging adults and teens to embrace a life of sexual integrity, encouraging married couples in their pursuit of sexual and emotional fulfillment, counseling women who have looked for love in all the wrong places and equipping parents to instill sexual values in children at an early age.

Her passion for healthy sexuality actually began in Mortuary College. Her first career choice, becoming a mortician, led Ethridge to work on dead bodies. Many she embalmed were young people who had died from AIDS or committed suicide as a result of an HIV positive diagnosis. Because of her own promiscuous teenage years, she knew it was a miracle that she was standing over the embalming table rather than laying on top of it.

These experiences inspired her to begin speaking boldly and bluntly to teen, college-age, and adult audiences about the benefits of sexual integrity. She has taught and counseled thousands of young singles and married couples over the past decade. She is the author of 18 books, including the best-selling Every Woman’s Battle series, the 5-book Completely His series, and her new book for the mainstream market, The Sexually Confident Wife.

Shannon has been featured on The Today Show (MSNBC), appeared on the cover of Today’s Christian Woman Magazine, and is a frequent guest on international radio & television shows such as The 700 Club, Life Today with James & Betty Robison, FamilyLife Today with Dennis Rainey, and New Life Live! with Stephen Arterburn. She has also been published in numerous magazines such as Focus on the Family, Brio, and LifeWay and is the winner of a Gold Medallion Award for Excellence in Publishing.

Although grateful for the opportunities to influence this generation as a writer and speaker, Shannon remains most passionate about her role as and best friend to her husband of 20 years, Greg, and a mother and cheerleader to their two children, Erin (18) and Matthew (15).

I just finished reading this book and am looking forward to summer break when my 13-year old daughter will have time to read it and discuss it with me. The author starts out with lots of studies and statistics that I skimmed over, but later I was glad to have these facts to encourage me that it's okay to share the graphic material with my daughter. Basically, if she doesn't talk to her parents about these things, she will just be learning from her friends or maybe even older men. The author tells alot of stories from her own and others' childhood and teen years that I could really relate to. I especially liked the positive, upbeat attitude throughout the book. She continually refers to the daughter reading the book as a "princess" who is showing respect for herself and others. I'm so glad to have this book so I can feel prepared instead of fearful!

I bought this book to read with my 9 yr old daughter. She absolutely loved snuggling on the couch or by our fire pit to read another chapter. I realized I was so busy that I rarely made time just to "hang out" with her. She told me things she was thinking and feeling that she had kept to herself up until now. It definitely opened the door to some conversations that we never would have had if I hadn't bought this book and sat down to read it with her. The book tells first about the physical aspects of adolescence and then goes into other areas that come into play like keeping secrets from parents, and dressing modestly, and picking friends, and talking with character among other things. My daughter has often asked me, "Mom, could we read another chapter of that book?" I highly recommend this book for ages 9-12 for these reasons. It is a valuable resource on multiple levels. If you have a pre-teen daughter (9-12), you must buy this book. I wish my mom or dad had talks like this with me. It would have helped me make better choices as a young woman. Thank you God I never got pregnant or caught horrible diseases, and that I'm forgiven and free now. I want my daughters to be more assertive and have the life they want, not what others want. I wanted to be a "princess" in my heart, but I didn't have the confidence to make it happen.

great for moms, not for daughters

I was highly disappointed with this book. The male companion book, "Preparing Your Son for Every Man's Battle" is absolutely fantastic. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat to every mom and dad of a 10-15 year old. This "Daughter" version is unimpressive, though. It's written by just one author, which limits it's usefulness to just one person's experience. It would have been much, much better if there was a co-author who came from a different background, in order to balance out the advice. Honestly, how much can this woman know if she did everything wrong when she was a kid, and she's only raised one daughter? Not that her advice can't be helpful, but it's so *limited* that it really needs some other voices backing her up. I found the whole tone of the second half to be very holier-than-thou and trust-me-because-i-say-so, which I can't imagine any preteen girl responding favorably to. Read it yourself, mom, and use the example conversations to start your *own* talks with your daughter. Give her lots of reasons behind your advice, but respectfully ask for her opinions too. By this age, you know that you can't just dictate rules anymore.
