My amateur radio test prep books have a long heritage. I remember taking the Virginia bar exam many years ago. Part of the exam was 8 hours of multiple-choice questions. By the end of the day (actually much sooner), I was completely confused because I had seen so many "wrong" answers that they started to blend in with the "right" answers.

Fast forward to studying for amateur radio tests. Unlike the bar, we know the questions and answers ahead of time but, going over the material left the same confusion - three wrong answers for every one correct answer. All the available study material included the wrong answers. What if I wrote a study guide focusing on the right answers with explanations? How about I throw in some memory tricks to help retain the information?

I was teaching a Technician license class and used this approach. The students loved it. They said it made learning much easier. Thus was born the "Easy Way Ham Books" series.

I normally do not review books as they are a very personal choice. A neighbor showed me his Yaesu 2 meter handheld and I did what I always do when interested in something; I bought a book about it. Amazon had this offering and I found it very informative and entertaining. Mr. Buck has decades of experience and this shows in his writing. He covers a full range of topics with a bit of humor and some amusing anecdotes.

The subject of radio and its place in the electro-magnetic spectrum is the subject of thousands of books, but for an easy to digest overview, you can't go wrong with this one. It makes the perfect "bathroom book"

This book is a lot more beginner friendly. Most ham radio books read like surgical manuals. It's ridiculous to go into so much minutiae such as Olms law when all you want to do is talk on the radio. Teach some manners and procedure. If someone asks you what time it is, don't tell them how to make a watch.

Although this book details a lot of aspects of radios and the use of radio equipment and bands, it is not Prepper specific as the title leads you to believe. There isn’t any preparedness communications plans, bug-in or bug-out scenarios, or even setup of a remote emergency comms station. I was going to use this book for a Prepper class but instead I’ll give it to a newbie ham or someone to get into ham radio.
