Top customer reviews
Cons - the freaking silverware divider. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. Seriously - WORTHLESS. Extremely frustrating - we use a lot of silverware, and what the heck do we do now??? Yeah - WORTH-LESS. The drain holes could be a smidge bigger.
So - it's a great little drainer, except for those two things. And those two things are verrrry important. Needless to say, I'm kinda cheesed they didn't think to test their own product before sending it into production. I'd return it, but I tossed my previous drainer (vinyl coated dinosaur), along with the box this sorry thing came in. For the price I paid, totally not worth it. Here's hoping they put a bigger share of their profits into RnR.
Having just updated our kitchen, specifically to include a single basin sink, I wanted something to sit down inside the sink. This would allow me to air-dry the dishes while still leaving my counters uncluttered. When I happened on this collapsible dish drainer, I was intrigued - could this be my ticket to a "House Beautiful" or "BHG" kitchen! I measured my sink and the 16 1/2 inch length should have fit nicely into the sink, front to back, which was a little wider than that. Unfortunately, my sink apparently narrows a fraction about 3 inches down; I was unable to get the Progressive Dish Drainer to sit on the sink's bottom. Of course, I could use this item as designed - as an over-the-sink dish drainer. However, that was going to put a hitch in my getting that "House Beautiful" or "BHG" spread.
In looking the frame over, I discovered that small "pegs" held the extendable arms in the drainer's frame. My spouse was able to extend the arms, drill holes in the side rails on the back side, push the extensions back into the frame, and then pull out the pegs that were on each arm. After removing the arms, the drainer now fits easily inside my sink. Removing the extendable arms does not seem to affect the Progressive Collapsible Dish Drainer's integrity. If you have a side spray or soap dispenser installed - with an 8 inch spread - on your countertop, there is only about 1 inch of the arm which rests on the countertop. I found this to be less sturdy than I preferred. Removing the extendable arms solved this problem for me.
The Progressive Collapsible Dish Drainer, with personalized modifications, solved my issue of a cluttered countertop. Because I do not hand wash plates, I cannot speak to several reviewers' concerns about the depth of the grooves. However if you, like me, hand wash only select items and are looking for a way to remove your dishes from the countertop without actually drying them, you should consider the Progressive Collapsible Dish Drainer. Who knows - you, too, may find your kitchen featured in "House Beautiful" or "BHG!"
1) It easily compressess into a flat board (as thick as a cutting board) I store it in a standing rack with my cutting boards
2) Large dinner dishes easily fit into the grooves.
3) Fits easily in the sink and can support a lot of weight.
4) The utensils divider is great and can easily store them standing up.
5) Holes in the bottom easily drain water into the sink
1) Not enough storage for many glasses or mugs.
Overall, this product is fantasic and I am very pleased!
