The opening of the second chapter is instructive: "I have come to understand that emotional wellness comes from accepting complete and utter responsibility for everything we say and do." That is as clean and spare and clear an expression of the core of Dr. Martin's life and work as you are apt to ever find.
The rest of the book expands, clarifies, and demonstrates that core idea, leading you to the practice of it, if you choose to explore and practice. The language is direct and clear. There is no doctrine, no dogma, no hocus pocus, no vague language, no vague ideas. Here's a path. Follow or not. Dr. Martin is your guide, neither stern nor soft, but always supportive.
He's a good guy and he's built a good book.
