Editorial Reviews

2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of the Dutch Prog Rock quartet's debut album, originally released in 1970. Featured on the soundtrack of the film Control (the Ian Curtis/Joy Division bio-pic), interest in the band is at an all time high. Led by keyboardist Robert Jan Stips (later of the Nits), Inspired by the work of Soft Machine and Caravan, the group recorded a quartet of master works. Eccentric, accomplished and unique, Supersister could run circles around almost any other band of the era. Esoteric.

I've been interested in purchasing Supersister's 'Present from Nancy' for years but it was never available in record stores in the U.S. I got a good copy from this site without paying an arm and a leg and I am happy I did because this album punches all my buttons. The Esoteric Recordings release is essential as it carries four non-Lp songs including the so-great-it-should-be-considered-a-classic "She was Naked".

The album proper is frequently compared to Caravan but make no mistake, this collection of songs is its own animal. What it shares with Caravan and, I guess, early Soft Machine, is a playfully adventurous approach to music making. While in the Prog tradition of musical mini-suites and mostly non-vocal songs, Supersister avoids the sturm und drang of most of the heavy-weights of the era. Plus, like the afore-mentioned Canterbury bands, this group is blessed with a monumentally gifted and inventive keyboardist, Robert-Jan Stips.

I have many classic rock albums of the 1960's and '70's and am shocked that I somehow lived without Supersister's joyful noise for so long. Unreservedly recommended!

this was the first supersister record to be released in 1970 and the music was also used for a sountrack film regarding ian curtis wich i have never seen before, regardless of my not seeing the film the music alone here is awesome!!! it is a cross between psyche,,prog and acid rock, i do hear elements of early caravan here but i would only say the first 4 caravan records remind me of this, supersister where yet again another dutch band that had a huge following in holland but did not seem to make much of a dent outside of holland, this was a great record to start off with as this totally sounds like it is out of 1970, it has its trippy moments, its hammond organ moments, guitar distortion and great keyboards, the vovals are great to, this remaster on esoteric is great as i have never heard this sound better, i personally feel this was acid rock at its best, this scene that was going on in holland in the late 60s and 70s was an awesome scene wich produced many great bands, supersister did go on in the 70s to tour europe and the uk but mainly there home base is what kept them going, great 5 star record here, totally trippy, if you like that stuff GRAB THIS!!!!!

Hi all there. I see a lot of comments about Supersister sounding like caravan or Soft Machine. I'm one of those who grew up in Holland admiring bands like Supersister and following them throughout their carreer. If they at all have to be compared to another band, than it's Frank Zappa. Which they acclaim in the track Corporation Combo Boys " we listen with attention to the Mothers of Invention", right here on this album. Or alternatively listen to a track called A Girl Named You from the album "To the highest bidder". Could have been a track of FZ himself.
