Format: Paperback
As a textile artist and textile conservation technician, I know that people often make serious mistakes when dealing with old textiles. This book gives collectors the opportunity to hear from experts how to store or exhibit their objects without harming them. For the more ambitious (and courageous) it gives guidelines for safely cleaning textiles and stabilizing damaged areas. This book is well organized, clearly written in plain language and with beautiful illustrations and photographs that will help the reader visualize the techniques described. It would be a valuable resource for any serious collector or for anyone with an attic, closet or cedar chest filled with neglected treasures.

This book is hardly the most useful book you'll pick up on textile care. Frankly, you can learn more with some solid google searching on academic sites than you'll get here. The pages on wet cleaning? Unbelievably brief, and basically suggests that you engage a professional. Thanks, but as a person who has worked for 15 years with vintage clothing I already knew 90% of what it suggested. Join the vintage fashion guild, do your research, and save yourself the money. Why there are pages and pages dedicated to cataloging when this book is clearly marketed to the NON-specialist is a bit odd to me. This seems more apt for a small museum looking to get basic info than the layperson, and I find most of the data to be redundant and dull.
