We've become a nation of narcissistic, yoga-mat-toting, service-dog-having, absentee dads and gluten-free, hand-wringing, hypochondriac moms of overcaffeinated (yet somehow still lazy) twerking tweens. And our government is an inept bureaucracy incapable of doing anything except getting in our wallets and in our way.

We've got to get it together, America.

That is why I, Adam Carolla, hereby declare myself Candidate Carolla. The tome you hold in your hands is a statement of my intent to whip our country back into fighting shape, to eliminate the "what are you going to do for me?" mentality that has invaded our country.

Adam is the best! He has the guts to tell it like it is, the life experiences to relate to the people!!! Everyday folks. No holds barred, work hard, get off your ass and make something of your life. From the stories about his kid's school functions and teachers, to the CHP and meter maids never missing a beat, what about protecting our safety instead? Refreshing perspective, funny, eye opening. My favorite tidbit from Adam, also instilled in me by my parents: DELAYED GRATIFICATION. This philosophy has been lost, the 20-30 somethings of today want it all, now, at any expense, who cares about tomorrow. This philosophy diminishes value, gratitude and appreciation of everything.. I see it every day, every where, zero appreciation, value and discipline. No desire to sacrifice today, to have double tomorrow. It really sums it up for me. Lots of laughs, lots of stories, lots of passion and lots of facts to back up his viewpoint. Love!!!!

Everyone thinks my views on America and the world are all honked up. But now I've found a champion in Adam Carolla. He believes what I believe. And now at parties when people are giving me that awkward look with the long drawn out, "Ooooookaaaaaayyyyy" I now pull out my Kindle and show them that I'm not alone. Then they say, "I don't get what Candy Crush has to do with the Education Crisis?" And I respond with, "No wait. Let me scroll through all of this. Hold on just a second." Then I find it and say, "HA! Adam agrees with me!" And they say, "You mean that guy goes on a rampage every Thanksgiving over proper cranberry sauce recipes? The guy who insists on keeping everyone's doggie bag when he takes them out to eat? That guy?" And I say, "Well, yeah. But he does make some good points too."

This is the first book of his that I read. I checked samples of the others but found this one to be interesting. His take on politics is pretty conservative and I like a lot of what he has to say. There's so much waste and corruption in government today that he talks about and I liked his take on most of it. He wrote the book talking about what he would do if elected president and how he'd straighten out various departments of the government. Of course, it's unlikely that he'd have a chance at that position, but he's got some great ideas.

As a Carolla fan I have read both of his other books and heard a lot of his comedy material and podcasts. Obviously there will be a few things in the book you have heard him talk about or say before, but I was surprised at how many new hilarious things found in this book! I liked "In 50 years we'll all be chicks" a lot --- but it was pretty much his radio show and podcast in book form. "Not taco bell material" was bad (pretty much an account of every story ever told in his podcasts) and almost made me not purchase this book. Thankfully I did. I highly recommend this to any fan. I even had my dad read it and heard him laughing along in the first chapter!

I found this book to be laugh-out-loud funny in several parts, but I was also struck by the accurate political commentary as well. Carolla's ideas on competition and work ethic are dead on, and it is the demise of both that is threatening to destroy the country. If you understand the flaws in the "Everyone Gets a Trophy," mentality, you will appreciate much of what is said in this book. Buy it for the humor, but I encourage you to think about some of the serious points that are being made. Caution: This book has some R-rated material. It didn't bother me and was often hysterical, but some passages may offend.

I'm a fan of Adam since Loveline, The Man Show, various radio and now multiple podcasts. It's no secret that his books are detailed musings of what he hashes out on his podcasts and now on stage, so you will find little new in the book from what he talks about if you follow his rants and raves. No one would argue that this newest book is a look into a male, middle-aged mind of a self-made carpenter turned entertainer who holds opinions on the current state of Los Angeles and his industry, but it seems pretty myopic and self-serving.

I understand that this book is for fun and should not be taken too seriously, but there is a certain undertone of "Old Man Carolla" and the reader may suffer from whining fatigue. Don't get me wrong- he does make some valid points on the decline of society (especially in almost any urban setting in the U.S.) and does like to rightly poke at the hives of many civil rights organizations, but this book seems like just more banter than good story telling found in the past books. Good at times with some valid observations, but can become grating and more an echoing from his other outlets.

It takes a special attitude to read this book; because Carolla neatly spells out what everyone is thinking; but is too afraid to bring up at parties. Short of nuking D.C., Carolla brings a no-nonsense, in-your-face approach to turning America around. This is not for liberal P.C. er's out there. As the late George Carlin once quipped, "America is just circling the drain right now", and Carolla sees that too; and offers up his plan to remedy that. Unfortunately, as funny and to the point as his solutions are, none of them would (or will) be taken seriously in our current political climate.
