Sponsored by the White House Historical Association, William Seale's two-volume The President's House is the most complete history of the White House ever written. Drawing upon 10 years of research and writing, the author provides the first detailed account of the many changes the house has undergone. Along with details of the building's architectural history, interior designs, antiques, and other decorative arts, The President's House furnishes a wonderful narrative of the people associated with the White House.

Not only did it have everything I needed, but it is an amazing book of our political history, too. Although sometimes tedious with the minute details, the 2 volumn history is able to keep the readers attention as it takes the reader from the political maneuvering for the location, through all the numerous renovations, with the White House funding used as a pawn for political rivals. Highly recommend if you love politics and history.
History buffs will be entranced. It's like a Harry Potter book - you enjoy the story and don't want it to end. And - if we can continue to make democracy work - it won't have to end. We have many freedoms to protect, and, as the bumper sticker says - "Freedom is not free". Hopefully, there will eventually be Volumes 3 and 4!!
