Let's get right into it.
PROs:
1. This really is a beautiful deck of cards. The colors are muted but elegant. They feel right for the era.
2. The cards have a smooth glide to be sure but will need to be broken in for any cardistry.
3. The Mad Men era theme is accurate, too. The font is dreamy, LOVE it! It's a total 50s vibe font.
4. The Face cards are fantastic!
In case you can't see the pictures I posted, here's what each character is doing:
The KING
Spades - Cocktail glass in hand, contemplating buying his third yacht
Hearts - Sh*# eating grin with a cocktail glass in hand
Diamonds - About to light a cigarette with a zippo while He questions every decision he ever made
Clubs - About to enjoy a puff on his pipe after learning of yet another successful account acquired
The QUEEN
Spades - Staring listlessly through her wine glass and talking herself into dumping the King of Hearts
Hearts - Staring through her wine glass, wondering why the Queen of Spades is so listless...and what listless means.
Diamonds - Cigarette in hand and almost certain that the hat she's wearing was the wrong move for this party
Clubs - Cigarette in hand, enjoying the deep satisfaction of closing the biggest account the firm's ever had
The JACK
Spades - Examining a shot glass, convinced he's Tom Cruise even before there WAS a Tom Cruise
Hearts - Examining a shot glass, smitten with the fact that he'll just buy butt implants and continue to skip leg day
Diamonds - About to enjoy a cigar but pauses to investigate, he heard Tom Cruise was here
Clubs - Cigar in hand but can't enjoy it cuz he can't believe, "Nobody but me wears glasses, huh? Nobody. How am I the ONLY...NOBODY else needs glasses!? How is that possible!? I'm OUTTA here, man. Ya know, SORRY I...What's that BRANTLEY? Oh, don't worry, I'm bouncin'! Me and ALL four of my eyes are gonna be settin' a ghost loose in this pla...huh? Come again? YES, I know what "ghosting" means. You ever heard of Patrick SWAYZE?? Something else to add, Brantley? Yes, I KNOW this isn't a COSTUME PARTY".
CONs:
1. The only reason I'm giving this deck 4 stars, and not 5, is because of the color difference between the product photos and how they look in real life. The product photo of the backs of the cards LOOK like a deep and vibrant kelly green. In person, they are much closer to mint green. Still nice to look at but NOT what I was hoping for.
2. There's no backer card. I'm just getting into card tricks, and a backer card would have been nice, especially from a company called "Ellusionist". If you didn't know, a backer card has a picture of the "back" of the card on BOTH sides of the card which is used in many card tricks.
3. The extra cards.
They're just kinda, meh. The two Jokers in this deck are a woman winking with the captions, "Press your luck" on one card and "Glides like air" on the other. It's cute I guess, but I'd much prefer a picture of a couple of different cocktails. Maybe one card is a martini glass and one a whiskey on the rocks.
Then there are two MORE cards that are advertisements for Bicycle cards on one and Pressers on the other. Why not make ONE of those a backer card and the other one could have advertisements for both Bicycle AND Pressers?
Overall this is still a very nice looking and nice to handle deck.
One last thing. When posting the photos, I did NOT lighten or brighten or "adjust" the photos of the face cards. When I did, I felt like they looked more vibrant than they actually do in real life, so I left those unedited. I did "auto adjust" the pictures of the number cards so that they are a little easier to see.
I hope this was helpful!
