Easy set upTo get ready to play, simply shuffle the cards and place the deck face down on the table. Set the timer and game die in the center of the playing area, and let the charades begin! |
Reading is not required to playThe youngest player starts the game by rolling the game die and turning over the top card of the deck. The player looks at the charade that corresponds to the number that was rolled. Non-reading players will select the picture that is on the card - they do not roll the die. |
Fun for the whole family!Once the timer is flipped, the player starts acting out the charade to the player on the left. Actions and noises are allowed when you charade, but no words! Players are allowed only one guess for each turn. If the first guess is incorrect, the next player gets to guess, and so on. When you guess correctly, you win the card being played. Be the first player to collect three cards to win! |

On the plus side, it's fun that all players take a turn trying to guess the mystery word, until one person gets it right and wins that card. This is more fun and engaging than choosing teams and just watching while the other team take their turn playing. And kids do have fun when it's their turn to act out a word. We just found it got old quickly for the ones watching!
I think we'll put this on the shelf and give it a try in another couple of years.
- 4 yr old boy
- 6 yr old girl
- 9 yr old boy
They all seem to really get a kick out of this game!
We as adults get fun out of playing it too. The most interesting part to me is getting a chance to see how things are perceived through their eyes when they act it out or present it
I can't wait till my son (8 months old :) ) is old enough to play with all of us lol
This would seem to go well on just about any occasion...Birthday party, family game night, holidays, etc

My kids are 4.5 and 8.5, but when one kid zonked out, the last two standing were still able to play. It became a game of how well we could act out for the other. Totally still lots of fun.
Somewhat annoying how many animals there are in the picture category. (it's really not reasonable to expect little kids to be able to charge "Gorilla" instead of "monkey" ..... real example ...). So many animals ... which there was more diversity. Also, you'd be surprised how hard it is to properly charade "Caterpillar" ... seems easy ... just try it. Try it with your kids before you buy it. Some of these are deceptively hard!!
But overall, a very good game, and a successful family time with Mom, 4.5 year old, and 8.5 year old spending quality time together. Without any reservation, I recommend this as a game to have in your game cabinet if you want to have family time that includes adults, readers, and non-reading kids who can understand pictures. I was actually amazed at how many things my 4.5 year old recognized. She was able to act out words (just by looking at the pictures) that I didn't even know that she knew.
