So, I thought I'd try this pan, but didn't have really high hopes.
I'm happy to say this was an excellent purchase. I now cook all of our fish in the outdoor kitchen, using this pan (it's much easier than firing up the grill for 1 or 2 pieces).
It gets very hot, heats evenly and quickly, is sturdy and well-built, and the absolute best feature is that it's dishwasher safe. The pan (minus the easily-removable electric element) goes straight into the dishwasher. I've washed it multiple times on a long cycle with high heat, etc. It's been very durable.
I didn't find any problems with the legs falling apart, as some other reviewers noted.
As far as size, I typically cook 1 piece of fish, about 8-12 ounces. The pan could easily accommodate 2 or even 3 pieces about this size.
Pros: It is sturdy and well designed. It uses the same plug-in thermostat as models with Teflon coating. The thermostat is predictable and reasonably accurate.
Cons: Just one. Not all stainless steel is the same. For some reason, the manufacturer elected to use one of lesser quality. I can clean it up with cleanser and/or steel wool, but it is a hassle. By comparison, I still have a couple of pots my parents purchased fifty years ago, and they clean up much easier.
If you read my other reviews you will realize that I expect excellent prices, quality products and for the products I order to arrive in a timely manner and UNDAMAGED!
This product arrived in excellent condition and in a timely manner. It is heavier and larger than I expected. For a trial run I cleaned the skillet and then cooked "Poor Man's Meal" ( From Clara's Depression Era Cook Book). It usually takes me 45 minutes to cook this meal in a quality stainless steel skillet on my energy hogging electric range. I was able to cook the same meal, using the same quantity of ingredients in 15 minutes, using this electric skillet!
That saved me 30 minutes cooking time which is 30 minutes less energy usage . Soo, if I cook this meal once a week, that adds up to a savings of 1560 minutes of energy per year. Wow! In the course of a year that is 26 hours less energy used.
The skillet is made of quality material and is easy to clean. The lid is heavier than expected and although it is glass it is easy to clean as well. I think problems could arise if the skillet is not used on a perfectly level surface. But keeping that in mind this is an excellent product at an excellent price.
