Cleaning is a breeze. I wash by hand so I can't offer you a dishwasher safety experience, but it's easy to clean with soap and water. I recommend that you don't air dry it for too long. If you've been using it to fry, I would dry it off with a paper towel after no more than five minutes dripping to dry. Then with a dish towel. Because of its non-stick feature I don't use any abrasive scrubbers or metal tools other than the basket it comes with. The non-stick actually turns out to be a good thing because once I accidentally over cooked the rice. (Hey, it's a no attention required procedure for this thing.) The rice didn't burn and stick to anything, it just happened to be in an additional 20 minutes longer. :) Where the hook to the basket hangs on the cooker you can see the non-stick coating come off. It's just the line where the metal touches it. No big deal. Like I said, I don't use metal otherwise, so the rest of the kettle should last some time.
Overall, I have to ask why I didn't buy this sooner. It's solid and sturdy (the manual recommends you check the tightness of the screws regularly, but that only makes sense). All those years I tried to fry everything in skillets on the stove where more dangerous than it was worth. Now I have quick, safe, deliciously fried food (oh, and did you know that with a strainer and air tight storage, you can save your used oil and keep using it?).
Well - this little sweetheart does it all .. Fries, steams, simmers ....
We make sugar water for hummingbirds and our honey-bees. Neither nectar should come to a boil - We just add water, sugar, stir and set the Kettle on 200 & no more watching the pot ...
We also raise chickens for their delicious eggs. But as most of you know, peeling a farm-fresh egg is nearly impossible if boiled, but steam them? And the shell falls off easily ... I can make egg salad, potato salad, deviled eggs now .. with no hassle at all ...
Seriously folks .. this little gem is a great tool in your cooking arsenal ...
It may be small .. but it's dynamite !
