I have never read a book where I literally wanted to slap the male character because he could be such a douche....but man, oh man this story was great! Brian is the man you never want to be with bit can still relate to and understand somehow. Sam is the woman we all were at one point in high school. She manages to get under his skin without even trying. I wish the book was a little bit longer because I'd want to see how their story ended.... overalls, a great and sweet short read.

I'd like to give a better review, but there are too many things that take away from the story. Beginning with the author writing in present tense. There are words that actually should be in past tense, but aren't. The story itself is not original. Most stories are not, but the author puts a twist. Not here. Mot enough backstory on Brian. A few places were awkward. Story just ended with no resolution.

The product description doesn't say that this book is part of a series. Be aware that there are 4 books in this series and the other 3 books cost $2.99 each for roughly 80 pages (Amazon's estimate) or 24,000 to 26,000 words. Having said that, this story doesn't end in a cliffhanger, but it doesn't end with a definite HEA either. The H and h happen to be in a club at the same time, H sees the h dancing and goes over to dance with her. It ends like that. They aren't together, but there is potential for them to get together... and the story continues in Book 2. I didn't know that there were other books in the series, so when I got to the end and there was no definite HEA, I was dissatisfied and felt like I had wasted my time. I don't intend to pay what amounts to nearly $9.00 for the full story.

Stylistically, the whole book is written in present tense, so if you don't like that, it won't work for you. It is unusual, but I didn't mind. It is in third person, but we get both Sam's and Brian's POV.

As for the characters, Brian is very hard to like. He puts up a mean, sardonic, callous front, and I still don't understand why. His promiscuity also turned me off and made me lose respect for him. He has sex with whoever's willing, and the way the author has it, women are constantly seeking him out, they are drawn to him, drooling over him and falling at his feet everywhere he goes. In Chapter 2, a woman comes onto him at the bar, he takes her to the stockroom, pushes her over an empty crate, lifts her dress and just gets to it. No foreplay, no preliminaries. When he's done, he simply rights his clothing and walks out, leaving her there, not even helping her to stand up or anything. This left a bad taste in my mouth. He uses women.

In The Pretend Boyfriend a girl, Samantha Fox and her tormentor for middle grades find each other as adults and he becomes her pretend boyfriend for the weekend of her sister's engagement party. Brian Morton becomes The Pretend Boyfriend to meet a bet he made with his best friend, Caleb. Brian loves women but only is with them once with no strings attached.

He finds Sam is different when she is not interested in him over the weekend and after it is over he cannot get her out of his mind. The ending was a cliffhanger but not as bad as some as it opened the story up for more possible romance for both Sam and Brian and his best friend Caleb with Sam's best friend Cassie.

The premise wasn't bad, however the "alpha" male was a pig. Just because he had a rotten home life doesn't make it okay to be a bully. He was a pig when he was a kid and an even bigger pig when he got older. It's nice when a girl with low self esteem can get such a great guy. A dream come true.

I've read a lot of erotica and this didn't even get my engine started let alone get my motor running. I found the whole thing kind of, well, sad. Also the there were a lot of missing words and the tenses went from present to past in the same sentence.

Extremely disappointing.

I enjoyed this authors book great storyline
Brian is known for his one night stands and Sam is used to failed relationships. On a bet Brian is to be her pretend boyfriend for the weekend. I thought the story could have had a better or longer ending more detailed

I was looking forward to reading this book after reading the little about section, but was so disappointed. I had to force myself to keep reading through the editorial errors, it really takes from a book when you have to re-read over and over and decide which words belong or are missing. The story line was good, parts of the book seemed to contradict the time line, also it read as they just took off to the engagement party the same night of the bet, and near the end we find out there was some time in between.

I thought the plot was cute. The erotica wasn't as intense as I've read in the past but I enjoyed it (still hot). Writing was not perfect but I enjoyed enough that any errors didn't distract from the story. Happy ending- hurray!
