The Pretend Christian, thoughtfully written.

I was raised a catholic, went to catholic school, went to church every Sunday, received all the sacraments, the whole kit and kaboodle. I've also fallen away from my religion a few times too. Reading The Pretend Christian struck a chord in me. I absolutely love how Deirdre applied her personal experience with her faith throughout the book. I especially related to the experience she had with the teenage girls when they played the game "Bible Trivia". Not everyone has the capacity or will to be a "bible know it all", and as Deirdre pointed out that doesn't make them any less a Christian. Deirdre writes about her faith in the book and how it has guided her throughout her entire life, you just "gotta have faith". I especially like the takeaways after each chapter, kind of like a "to do" list on how you can apply her learnings.

The Pretend Christian helped me to look at my relationship with God in ways that I haven't done in quite some time. I'm a better Mom, Mimi, daughter, sister, and friend because of it.

I just finished enjoying this book. It is positive, uplifting and full of personal and relatable life stories that the author has graciously shared with us. It has awakened in me my Catholic upbringing and reminded me to just take a moment and enjoy all the wonders that God has created for us to behold. You will be reminded that God is with you, always. The author masterfully weaved this message throughout the book and explained how even when we experience grief or tragedy, God is there, and he'll meet you wherever you are in your journey. The takeaways at the end of each chapter for the "Searcher" and the "Christian" are incredibly insightful and encouraging. It's a cover to cover wonderful journey through life experiences, questions, doubts and assurances as the author makes her way to discovery of her Christianity and humanity. A feel good, positive read. If you need a "pick me up" this is it!

I really enjoyed the author’s personal stories and accounts of how she came to know God, or for her Jesus. Her story and perspective was so relatable mixed with a wonderful sense of humor. After reading I felt a sense of acceptance for a spiritual process that takes time. I liked the tangible suggestions given at the end of each chapter, which I started to practice. I will honestly read it again for a guide when I’m feeling low on my “faith” tank. Her perspective was refreshing and freeing. Thank you to Deirdre for a wonderful piece of work.

Ms. Reilly's faith journey is a compelling story, that captivates the reader. Many will be inspired and encouraged and also grow in their own personal relationship with Jesus. Her courage to share her personal stories and struggles in her search for the truth is both admirable and inspiring. Each chapter offers a takeaway for both those searching for the truth and for the believer who is seeking to grow in their faith. Her kind words of wisdom have helped me to see that we are not alone in our struggles and the importance of encouraging and supporting others in our search for God. This book made me laugh and also brought tears to my eyes.
The author has a real way of connecting with the reader with an honest, eloquent and humorous writing style. What a blessing to have read this book!!!
