Pretty Deadly: A fast-paced fairy tale with a deadly twist Kindle Edition
Cinna would quite literally kill for the throne…
For years, Cinna has been forced to serve her wealthy cousins rather than attend society events alongside them. She has waited for the chance to prove herself and exact revenge. When a ball at the castle is announced, promising to bring many powerful people to town, she seizes the opportunity to strike.
She bets her best friend, Johann, a small-time thief and con-man, that she can land a greater score the night of the ball than he can. They embark on parallel heists. But as their plots unfold, things begin to unravel: by the end of the night, the castle’s on lock down, a duchess is dead, a mansion has burnt to the ground – and Cinna hasn’t even stolen anything.
Or has she captured something far more valuable than gold and jewels?
"...a gripping tale that will appeal to lovers of suspense novels. Betrayal, deceit, scheming, manipulation, and elements... The plot was brilliant and airtight! I never saw the many twists and turns coming." -- Jennifer Ibiam, Reader's Favorite
"Josund knows how to spin a fantasy. She takes some of the familiar building blocks and constructs something fresh and different, which will delight steadfast fans and new ones alike. ...Josund has a firm grasp on the heist theme and pulls it off convincingly and entertainingly. ...It's easy to see the parallels between this novel and Cinderella, but this version is a more exciting and mature fairytale for adults. ... If you like leading ladies with attitude and an agenda, you will love Pretty Deadly by Kelsey Josund." -- Tammy Ruggles, Readers' Favorite
"[Cinna] is calculating, patient, and despite her thievery, she remains sympathetic...There is a sort of eat-the-rich attitude to her secret preoccupation." -- Vincent Dublado, Readers' Favorite
"...blends romance, intrigue, and action in a delightful story that will build thriller enthusiasts from YA audiences unused to the experience, while attracting adult readers with a special blend of action that revolves around royalty, heists, and a relationship doomed to explode." -- Diane Donovan, Editor, Midwest Book Review

This story follows Cinna and her best friend Johann. Cinna lives with and is tormented by her three cousins(similar to Cinderella). She is a thief to put it bluntly. Johann is also a thief and a charming conman. One day she makes a wager with Johann to see who can score the best goods via a heist at the castle during the upcoming ball. While preparing for this huge heist, also during and after, many things occur. Including some murders, a fire, a heist, and missing people. So, the question is, who did all this?
This book is sloooooowwww! I enjoy slow stories since they allow you to learn about the characters and allows the plot to thicken. However, this one was too slow 😂 I mean it didn’t actually start getting into some action until literally halfway or actually past the halfway into the book. So, expect it to be super slow and then to pick up a little past the halfway point. I will say the book is well written. A little too overly descriptive, but very well written and you could really picture everything that they did and where they were.
Now, I just did not like Cinna who is a rather devious, murderous-thinking sociopath. I just had a hard time grasping that Cinna is supposed to be Cinderella. Her thought process about everything and everyone is very askew. She’s very smart and is like a million steps ahead of everyone, but the things she thinks of and does I do not agree with and I was very disappointed in her as a character. I also did not understand WHY she needed her endgame goal. There was no explanation aside from her just being overly ambitious and wanting things that she never had. Although, I’m pretty sure she could have gotten anything she wanted since it’s not like she was stuck living with her cousins. I mean she’s a thief! She could have abandoned them and gone her own way, but no, she had a more devious reasoning and that I just don’t get.
Now Johann, I enjoyed. He disappointed me, but I still liked him as a character. He’s charming, realistic, smart, and just an all around great thief. His thinking is so different from Cinna, and so I enjoyed his character a lot more, but for being as smart as he is, I’m disappointed in him, though, when it came to Cinna. It’s like a pretty face just caused him to lose all coherent thoughts.
This story was just not for me. And I’m not saying others will not enjoy it because I think many will! I’m not a huge fan of the morally grey characters and I know some are, so I know many will love this book! I just sadly did not 😔
