About the Author

I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story. (This bio is not to be taken seriously under any circumstance.)

When I first started this book, I think I mumbled to myself about 15 times "what the hell is going on?". I love that about this book, I hate reading predictable and boring books, and this book had not one moment that was boring. slowly throughout the book the author starts giving away little hints and then BAM it is totally not what you expected, trust me it is shocking!!

The characters were so unrefined and real, we don't get the G rated version of them, that is for sure, and I am so happy about that becasue this book would not be the same if the main characters had been hollywoodised. Colin is so raw and demanding and he is such a contradiction. I found myself hating him one minute and loving him the next, and wondering what the hell was going on another. He was raised to be a monster by a monster and he struggles on a daily basis to hide this part of himself. He was born to be a predator but above all he feels like his one chance at redemption is to protect Annie. He tries time and time again to justify and rationalise his feelings for Annie, but is unable to find redemption with his feelings and emotions. I was a bit worried about 3/4 of the way through in the direction his character seemed to be going, but i should have trusted the author. At one point in the book, he pretty much says 'screw it all' and lets the dark side surface and it was HOTT.

Annie is interesting, I feel like we don't ever really get to know the real Annie, she is so used to playing this part of a good little girl and hiding her past, that she has kind of lost her way in the process. She has this odd relationship happening with Jacob, which I believe is just to get a rise out of Colin.

As it's a lot darker than other books I've reviewed, I chose to go into this story blind. The brief and cryptic blurb put this title on my TBR list almost instantly, but there's a reason why I avoided teasers or reviews...The only way to satisfy my curiosity was to draw the curtain back myself.

I actually started right before I went to bed, thinking, "Oh, let me get into a few chapters, then I'll call it a night." Nope. Didn't happen that way. I completely devoured this book, in mere hours. I kept wanting to see where this rabbit hole led, needing to add just one more piece to the puzzle. In fact, I reached the 40% mark without even highlighting or noting a single thing. I was so immersed that it was straight reading!

This is obviously not "traditional" romance. The main characters, Annabel and Colin, share a dark, disturbing past. From the very beginning, you get the sense that something is off about them, but you'll only want to delve deeper, hypnotized. The dual point-of-view and use of flashbacks add so many layers to the story and amplify the suspense.

Pretty Little Things gave me reading-chills, those moments that stop your eyes in its tracks as it darts across the page, the ones that catch you by surprise and jolt you to attention. Gripping. Mesmerizing. Spine-tingling.

Annabel and Colin's scenes bleed a dark, mysterious intensity that can make your stomach flutter and your muscles tense. She is the delicate innocence contrasting with his tortured soul and controlling, possessive side. There's an intriguing twist to their relationship, as that teases the illusion of "taboo."

When it was all over, I had to walk around my kitchen and have a snack at 2 in the morning...seriously...

This is the first book I read by Teresa Mummert. This book was more than a five star read. I don't usually read anything in the first person, but I really liked this book. The hero Colin had scars on the inside and out. He had demons that he had to fight to realize he wasn't as bad as he thought he was. Annie the heroine was the woman to show him. Their love story was sweet and hot. You good feel the heat and tension when these two were together. They both had a past that they had to get through before they could actually be together. The villain of the story is really evil. Evil isn't even the word for this person. The secondary characters brings real depth to this story. This is one story you don't want to miss.

“Perfection is an illusion that I have mastered. It is the weak who suffer in mediocrity. But my fears are very real and the story of my past is what nightmares are made of. The monsters no longer hide under my bed. I welcome them under the covers. Popularity is a contest after all and I was anything but a loser.”

This book brought me to my knees. I read it in one day and I am pretty sure I forgot to eat. I rarely read a book that is capable of eliciting so many emotions. It’s hard to put into words how I felt while reading this book. It took me over a week just to write this review. I was taken on quite the journey with this one!

The book starts with us understanding that Annabel was trapped in a situation where she presents a façade to the world. She and Colin have escaped a horrible past, but they haven’t eliminated the dangers, they have simply outrun them… for now.

“Here we don’t pray for the weak, we prey on the weak.”

For Annabel, living in this dynamic is a daily struggle. She is 17 almost 18. She lives under the thumb of her “brother” who wants to protect her by micromanaging her life. She wants to be free and live as a normal teen does, but her biggest problem is that she has never known what normal is. The only constant in her life is Colin. He is all she knows.

Colin rescued her, but he knows that danger is still in her presence every day. Escaping the devil who held them left him full of demons. He trusts no one with Annabel… including himself.

“It wasn’t as easy for others to accept the darker side of themselves. Most like to cling to the notion that hesitation still marked the presence of morality. Deep down we were all just selfish animals. We liked to take… or be taken.
