Spacious and Perfect for Syrian Hamsters 608 Sq. In.

Absolutely love this Hamster Home!Our little Jimothy is so much more comfortable in this large cage compared to the one we got from the pet store. The bottom part is about 608 sq inches of space and the platform is about 216 sq inches of space. You can move the platform up and down to leave room for hideouts or wheels if you want to put them above or under. We were able to fit two hideouts, a wheel, a small sand area, several chew toys, food dish, water bottle, some little climbing toys, and he still had tons of space to run around and borrow and explore.It was well packed and secure in the box which I was happy about. Everything came intact and it was easy to assemble. The entire home was extremely sturdy and easy to carry with the two handles at the top. The bars are spaced perfectly. Our hamster loves to climb all over his cage even with all the toys and treat he has so it was nice to see that he was not able escape through the bars.The side and roof door make it easy to clean his home and play with him.

Great cage with modifications

I think my hamster Lily likes her cage, although she is always trying to increase the outside space she can explore. It seems to be a great size, and it's easy to take the top (wires) off to wash down the plastic bin with some Dawn dishwasher soap and water. Rinse well and dry, of course. Putting the cage top back on is a two-person job for my husband and me. I need him to hold the cage top up high so I can get the ramp into the holes for it on the shelf - has to be at an angle. The clamps can be a little tough at times, but they're not too bad. After having kept hamsters in aquariums for so many years, I now find I'm picking up some hamster poop Lily apparently tosses from the plastic shelf at night, but it's typical of hamsters. She has a Niteangel maze house I bought when I first got her that she absolutely loves! Recently, I bought her some Niteangel wooden carrot chews and, practically in a blink of an eyes, she excitedly dragged them -one by one- into her maze house. I bought one of Niteangel's burrow houses, too. She has already investigated beneath it and climbed through the hole and up the middle ladder. I imagine she'll end up using the top ladder once she discovers it. Based on some reviews here, my husband and I DID use a tie on the top cage door to secure it. The bottom front door seems to be okay with the rod that secures it. My husband used some old metal walls from a hamster playpen to make it harder for her to get out through the corners of the cage. She doesn't bite the bars too much, but she definitely would like to get out sometimes, but I think (with the modifications), it's pretty secure and she seems to like it for the most part. Much better than buying the smaller colorful cages that provide inadequate space for a syrian hamster.

(Update after using it for 2 weeks)
After utilizing the cage for more than 2 weeks, I may just remove the platform just to open up more space for viewing my hamster. It would just give me more space to add toys and hiding places for my hamster. I think I may build a small shelf for her food and water dish. You might find the same thing about the platform. It's great but just covers a bit too much of the cage in my mind. I might still use the ramp but the platform might be coming out. This is not a complaint, just a modification I might want to make. I love this cage!
(Update after 4 weeks)
I did remove the platform but decided to put it back on. I created a wooden compartment that I placed underneath the platform and this is where my hamster Cooty makes her nest. She still loves this cage and I also bought one for my daughter's hamster, Pumpkin. Pumpkin is in heaven after being introduced from her old CritterTrail cage to this one! I just realized that my hamster really loved the platform and spent a lot of her time up there at night in between going on and off of her Silent Runner wheel. She also likes to go underneath it because I think it gives her a sense of protection. I've made some adjustments to the cage because my hamster was biting the metal. In those areas I added some thin pieces of oak wood kept on with plastic ties. It works really well! BTW, I removed the ramp as I thought it was a little bulky and there was really no need for it as I add plenty of bedding so Cooty can just climb up onto the ramp from the bedding.

I still love this cage. I've created a number of wooden compartments for the cage such as a sandbox and a couple of shelves. I also use ramps I purchased online so that Cooty can get around. I decided to create an unboxing and assembly video to go with a few more pictures. I had to speed up the video in parts to get under the Amazon maximum length. I would consider myself an expert when it comes to this cage! I hope you enjoy the pictures and the video!

I'm trying to come up with something that I dislike about this Prevue 528 Small Animal Home but I'm having a hard time doing so. It was easy to assemble, well built, and certainly large enough for a Syrian hamster. My new hamster, Cooty, loves this cage. I added a 9" Silent Runner wheel to it and she uses it every night. What I love about the platform is that it gives her another perspective at that level. I have the entry to the wheel from this platform and I also keep her food and water dish on it. I love the large door on the top and the side. It makes it really easy to make adjustments inside the cage. I have yet to clean it but I would imagine that I may not even have to remove the top of the cage to clean it due to the large openings.By TotallyUniqueLife on February 9, 2020

Bought for my Syrian hamster since his original cage just wasn't cutting it. It was very easy to put together and he seems to be loving the extra space to run around and burrow!
