As I noted in my review of Book 2, Dead and Damaged, this book could also be turned into a great action-packed movie. Would include locations of Los Angeles (Lori’s home base, and where Striden resurfaces), Las Vegas area (rogue vampire compound), London (the mansion of Crina’s clan), and the catacombs of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania (the temple of Pureblood vampires).
There are a number of literally spellbinding fights or battles: Lori’s two extended fights with Striden in LA (he’s killed in the second one); the battle to eliminate rogue vampires at their compound near Las Vegas, where rogue vampires fight to the death--like gladiators--to weed out the weak; and the final encounter at the Pureblood temple in Romania, where the Purebloods are all eliminated.
And the story has a hopeful ending, when Lori--who amazingly survives all this--says, referring to her eyes: “...now there’s more than pain in these eyes: there’s freedom, fire, and a vision for a better future”.
Too bad this is the last book in the series. I’ll eagerly await her next one, whatever genre it may be.
Obviously passionate about the concept of paranormal subjects Eaves story examines how humans coexist with vampires, allowing each group to benefit from the other despite governments and corporations attempts at manipulation in the quest for power and dominance. She moves through these strange cycles with ease producing a very fast reading and adjustment to concepts we may not understand with fine explanation.
A bit of background from Book 1 THE ENDANGERED: ‘Have you ever gotten sick from getting a flu shot? Have you ever turned into a werewolf from a getting a flu shot? How did that make you feel? When a prominent pharmaceutical company releases its newest strain of the flu vaccine to the public, all hell breaks loose, literally. A gnarly side effect turns those who receive the vaccine into werewolves, and only a small population of vampires, known as The Endangered, is capable of fighting against the ever-growing werewolf population. When all is said and done, secrets will be exposed, alliances formed, and blood spilled as The Endangered do everything in their power to preserve their own kind and their food supply.’
‘Book Two DEAD AND DAMAGED of The Endangered Series picks up with Lori attempting to track down the source of stealth technology rogue vampires are using to hunt humans. Her pursuit leads her into the arms of a government agency with similar objectives. A temporary alliance is formed in an effort to stop the corporation responsible for putting the technology in malignant hands. Their mission goes awry, however, and leaves Lori with more enemies than friends. Her situation worsens when Marcus learns that the corporation has also been working with vampires to develop daylight suits and synthetic blood. He convinces his clan that this organization and its infinite resources will be a valuable asset in the evolution of their kind. They begin questioning Lori’s motives and Marcus takes the opportunity to capitalize on their distrust. Consequently, Lori soon finds herself on the run from her former clan and turns to Vega for help exposing the truth behind Marcus and his new deceitful allies.’
Book Three PREY TILL THE END continues the tale – ‘Seven years have passed since Lori exiled herself from her clan. Seven years without bloodshed, without demons, without torture, without premonitions. Seven years of peace and quiet in the civilian life she’s cultivated for herself. Seven boring years. Then Vega appears at her doorstep with alarming news: a former member of his clan is responsible for the recent string of homicides across the southwest and the Purebloods are holding her clan responsible. To make matters worse, this traitor is working with an enemy from Lori’s past who is hell bent on revenge. Now she’s faced with returning to the world she’s tried so hard to escape in order to save the only family she has left. Lori finds unlikely allies in a slayer and a werewolf hybrid, both survivors of S&D Pharma’s experiments. Together they fight to stop the vampire’s killing spree and absolve her clan from the Pureblood’s wrath. That’s if a ghost from her past doesn’t succeed in stopping her first.’
Definitely for the fans of vampires and other paranormal creatures – and that audience continues to grow, if the current television and movie releases are an indication. Eaves writes it well – a new voice with a different take on a familiar theme. Grady Harp, November 17
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well. The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremely well written and has fast become one of my favourites of all time. This book was full of many twists and turns that will keep you guessing what is going to happen until the very end. I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!! I absolutely adored reading this book and will be one clicking the rest of this authors work.
