Dash Hammond, U.S. Army retired, returns from an extended trip to meet his new neighbor, Annie Dewitt, who is housesitting next door. E. M. Munsch (Elaine) is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. She has divided her adult life between Ohio and Kentucky. She graduated from Nazareth College of Kentucky located outside of Bardstown, the bourbon capital of the world, and not far from her maternal grandfather's home in Balltown, Kentucky. She attended The Ohio State University doing work for her Masters in English Literature. In 1972, she became a bookseller at a small independent in Louisville. Fifty years later she is still talking and selling books. She opened the first Barnes & Noble in Louisville where she set up a mystery reading group that is also still going. She taught classes in the mystery genre for the Veritas Society and joined the local Sisters in Crime chapter, Derby Rotten Scoundrels.

She writes the Dash Hammond series set on the shores of Lake Erie.

With Susan Bell, she co-edited Mystery with a Splash of Bourbon.
