About the Author

Andrea Brokaw is a novelist. And a dreamer, a skier, a curler, an NFL fan, and a homeschooling mom. As a Navy brat and then a Navy wife, she's lived on three continents, in four countries, in seven states, and in thirteen towns. (Or something like that. She loses count.) She has two cats and a ten-year-old boy.

While you don't need either a familiarity with Pride and Prejudice or Curling, it certainly adds to the experience if you have both. I found there was a bit of a learning curve with curling... which I've watched...but only at the Olympics and I've never played. On the other hand, I've read quite a few Pride and Prejudice retellings and this is one of my favorite. It wasn't exact on the plot twists but that was part of what made it fun. I kept waiting for those moments that tied-in to the classic. It was like being on a scavenger hunt with plot points.

The poems from both of them were so well done and she'd built up Lucas's personality so perfectly at that point. The final few chapters were the perfect reward for the reader. Brilliantly done. I loved this book. It went right into my favorites.

I really enjoyed this retelling of Pride and Prejudice BECAUSE it didn't follow P&P so precisely. Darcy made a great Elizabeth, and the twist on Mr. Darcy's relationship with his younger sister, Georgiana as reinterpreted in this book is really adorable. I also really loved the twist on why "Mr. Darcy" aka Lucas isn't thrilled about the "Bingley and Jane" situation.

I picked this book up after getting off of a rough day at work. I needed something sweet, clever, distracting and good. This fulfilled that need. I consummed it all in one sitting as I could not seem to put it down. It was a really fun read that put a smile on my face.

My tastes in books vary. One day you'll find me with Shakespeare, next I have my nose in a Manga. This book falls nicely in between. The main characters were really enjoyable. Reading the other reviews before I posted, I figured I may want to advise anyone who's thinking of reading this that "No, its not too sports related." For me I usually refuse to read or watch anything that has too much sports in it (I blame this on my father's addiction to sports). This book does have a decent bit of curling in it as well as well crafted explanations. The curling is more of an interesting character and not an overwelming boring inclusion though. So if you are like me and avoid sports at all costs, don't let the curling references turn you off from reading this book. It really is a fun read with charming enough characters to get me past any sports issues.

I normally like any thing "Pride and Prejudice" related and this book had many sweet and emotional moments, but unfortunately I have never heard of the sport, Curling, which to me made the book hard to follow. Perhaps if the sport had been better explained at the beginning of the book it would have helped me to follow along and get into the book more.

As an adult whose favorite book is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this is a great updated parallel story for tweeners to adults. The story is light and fun and you fall in love with many of the characters. Changing the "sisters" to a curling team from middle class families and writing txts and emails helps to bridge girls today to relate to the characters. The book didn't get distracted down unnecessary tracks. Its a sweet and delightful retelling of the classic story. I highly recommend the book.

It wasn't difficult to figure out where the story was going but it was still fun and Ms. Brokaw writes well. It was because of the curling theme that I checked it out in the first place even though it's for young adults. I'm not sure if those who are unfamiliar with curling would understand a lot of the story but for someone like me who enjoys the sport, I could picture all of what was going on. Quick read and fun.

I had the great pleasure of reading this several times and trust me when I say that each time I reread it, it got better! Even if you're not a fan of curling or if you don't know the rules, Brokaw does such an excellent job with her descriptions and explanations that it's totally easy to follow the sporting aspects of the book. Curling fans and players alike will delight in the details that bring the bonspiels to life.

But at the heart is an update of a beloved book that does the original justice. Darcy has just as much heart as Lizzy and it doesn't take long before you want to swap best friends forever necklaces with her. And Lucas Fitzwilliam is just as frustrating, just as irritating, and just as swoon-worthy as Mr. Darcy himself. You'll be wishing that you were friends with the entire cast!

Don't miss this enchanting and fulfilling debut! Andrea Brokaw is one to watch out for!

I just completed reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed it! The writing was clever, the characters interesting, the references to Pride and Prejudice well done and worked smoothly into the plot, and since I love curling, the references to that sport was an added bonus for a Jane Austen fan! I look forward to more from Ms. Brokaw!!
