Pride and Punishment is a wonderful look at Jane Austin's original ... with a twist or is it a kink? I love how Mr. Darcy was so tempted by Miss Elizabeth and tried so hard (literally!) to stay away from her. It was interesting to see how far characters would go in this kinky version to get their point across. I loved the way everyone but Elizabeth bowed to Mistress Cat!
I really enjoyed Nia's version of events!
One of my favorite things about this book is that it is told from Darcy's point of view. He tells the reader that he had a problem stuttering when he was younger and was late in talking when he was a child. He admits that Lizzie is a more polished conversationalist than he is. It shows some vulnerability that I like to see. Another of my favorite parts of this book are when the two of them take walks in the woods. I won't spoil what happens,
so you'll have to find out for yourself; but they certainly weren't stopping and taking the time to smell the roses. Austen purists will find that the writing style shows great respect for Pride and Prejudice, and the author has a flair for writing Regency dialog.
Classics need to be taken down from the shelf and dusted off every so often. I highly recommend this sexy interpretation.
My first impression of the story is the verbiage is so formal, so wordy. I maybe the only person who has not read the original version of this story. So I have no comparison. Mine is a clean slate review.
The stiffness of personality in that era was uneasy to grasp. Nia Farrell added comedic undertones, sexy thoughts interspersed through conversations causing us to hold our breath. Mr Darcy, naughty that he is, true gentleman in all aspects. Miss. Bennett surpriseing in her actions. So demure, classic caring and yet who knew I loved it
Austen's version is story told through the eye's of Miss Eliazabeth Bennett. Nia's version I was pleased to see was from Mr. FItzwilliam Darcy's point of view. The language used on the whole flows as Austen's, of course set in Regency times; though a few errors will be spotted by Austen or Regency literacy officionados...worst faux pas for me had to be the ginger haired, plump lipped twink...erm, twink, not invented, term not used then, so for these errors, such as the prior to deflowering scene, although very erotic, was definitely not in keeping with how Regency Miss Elizabeth brought up and purported to be as a young lady of the highest morals, hence I give four as opposed to five stars.
I loved the idea of Lady Catherine de Bourgh being a Domme...just suits her overbearing character.
I would recommend it to those who love Regency era literature, but I think modern miss who has never dealt with the difference in language and nuances will find some difficulty.
I also think those who want chaste and pure may need to think twice or at least walk into this with eyes open as Nia's, Darcy and Hugh frequent a very different club to those mentioned in prior gentlemen's clubs ;) however, I did enjoy his sessions with towel and fantasies at night.
I guess I shall have to watch my DVD again and see Colin Firth from Nia's characters point of view.
Glad I read this. Close to a five star read.
