From the Author

I hope you enjoy Cori and Ryker's story as much as I enjoyed writing it. I've adored working on this series ever since the twist on shapeshifters and Arthurian Legend first popped into my head. While I'm busy at work on the next book, I hope you'll check out the others in this series, Primal Hunger, Primal Attraction, Primal Pleasure and Primal Temptation(my favorite to date).

And if you love my gargoyles, you'll definitely want to check out my Calder family witch series, beginning with the first book in the series, Say You're MineI love hearing from readers, so fill free to message me on Facebook or send me an email any time!

From the Inside Flap

Whipped cream in a steamy cup of hot chocolate. Fat snowflakes that melted on her tongue. Laughter that made her stomach hurt for hours. Those had been her favorite things--right up until Ryker touched her.

Sydney Somers new novel Primal Instinct is a prequel to her Pendragon series. It’s romantic, funny, sometimes tragic and full of action. It’s a paranormal romance, featuring immortal shifters with ties to King Arthur’s fabled Avalon .
Cori is convinced she’s going crazy when she starts having panic attacks and mood swings which cause outbursts that keep getting her fired. The only good thing in her life is Ryker, the next door neighbour she has balcony chats with but has never actually met. They’ve been sharing their evenings from opposite sides of the privacy fence, and he’s been playing a starring role in her night time fantasies, but Ryker isn’t want he seems, and he wants a whole lot more from Cori than just balcony chats.
Primal Instinct reminded me a lot of the best of the early Sherilyn Kenyon novels, back when her stories were light and fun, before they became so heavy and grim. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will definitely be back for the rest of the series.

I really liked this book. I've started reading paranormal books again after getting burnt out and am really enjoying them. This is the first in the series which deals with shifters and gargoyles which I've not read about before, and so far it's good.

Cori has known something was wrong for several months, but no doctor has been able to help her. The only solace she's found is talking at night to her mysterious neighbor. She hasn't seen his face, but she's drawn to his voice and feels safe when he's around.

Ryker has been stalking Cori. She's the key to locating Dalton, the immortal who slaughtered his sister and family. Dalton is also Cori's father. Ryker's initial plans were to take Cori and lure her father out. But after seeing her, he's drawn to her and even feels protective and looks forward to their nightly talks. However, when he realizes that he's not the only one watching her, Ryker knows his time is up. He has to move her. He also needs to tell Cori what she is. But the more time Ryker spends with her, the deeper his attraction. No matter what, he has to stay focused on avenging his family. Even if it means destroying the woman he's fallen in love with. The woman that is his wolf's mate.

Loved it. Ryker is wow. The chemistry between he and Cori flies off the page. The story just sucks you in and you can feel Ryker and Cori falling more and more for the other. Cori is a strong female character. She's not a whiney chick who annoys you every time she speaks. Cori is confident and knows what she wants. Ryker.

Primal Instinct is told in both Ryker's and Cori's POVs. It's a standalone but part of a series where the story as a whole progresses. I'm looking forward to what's up next.

So this week I read Primal Instinct by Sydney Somers. My friend, Crystal, at Redheads Review It Better raves about her, so I definitely had to see what’s up. I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed!

In the most basic terms, this book is about Corrine. Holy cow, I loved her! She’s a bit down on her luck and she has these nightly talks with a guy who lives next door to her – and she’s never seen him. They talk over the privacy fence! Anyhow, like I said, she’s down on her luck – and who can’t relate to that at one time or another, right? She’s also having these crazy mood swings, and is medicated very highly. Life, for Corrine, is definitely fit tightly into one uncomfortable box. Kind of like a Pandora’s box, and it’s about to get opened.

The neighbor is Ryker. Cool name, right? Ryker is a stubborn man, which we kind of learn later. But over the fence he is just as sweet and understanding, and consoling as can be. Like if you were to imagine the perfect man to sit and talk to and just get to know, it would be Ryker. I really loved how they built this connection together, before things got heated up. And of course, Ryker has secrets… being a wolf shifter probably being the biggest – but definitely not the only one!

Without giving away any monumental details, these two find themselves on a trip together. It’s action packed and full of sexual tension. Seriously – you could cut it with a knife. If you want some great kisses, you definitely need to read Primal Instinct. There are secrets and alliances, and lies, murder in the worst of ways.

The world that Sydney Somers created is just fantastic.

Wow! This book has made me love smoking hot alpha men so much more. I am slowly getting into more of the paranormal romance genre and this book is a great reason why. Ryker (name that I love and so displays alpha machoness!) is just so overly protective and gentle all at the same time. I love the way he is with Cori. Their talks on the patio and the way they come together, so amazing. Cori is such a great character. Compassion abounds for her when I first met her and then watching her come into her own. Wow! Loved the story from start to finish. Cannot wait to read the rest of this series!
