Editorial Reviews

Review

"Robinson blends myth, science and terminal velocity action like no one else."
-- Scott Sigler, NY Times Bestselling author of INFECTED and ANSCESTOR

"Just when you think that 21st-century authors have come up with every possible way of destroying the world, along comes Jeremy Robinson."
-- New Hampshire Magazine

"There's nothing timid about Robinson as he drops his readers off the cliff without a parachute and somehow manages to catch us an inch or two from doom."
--Jeff Long, NY Times bestselling author of THE DESCENT

"With THRESHOLD, Jeremy Robinson goes pedal to the metal into very dark territory. Fast-paced, action packed and wonderfully creepy! Highly recommended!"
--Jonathan Maberry, NY Times bestselling author of ROT & RUIN

" [SecondWorld] is gripping, propelled by expertly controlled pacing and lively characters. Robinson's punchy prose style will appeal to fans of Matthew Reilly's fast-paced, bigger-than-life thrillers, but this is in no way a knockoff. It's a fresh and satisfying thriller that should bring its author plenty of new fans."
-- Booklist

"A brisk thriller with neatly timed action sequences, snappy dialogue and the ultimate sympathetic figure in a badly burned little girl with a fighting spirit... The Nazis are determined to have the last gruesome laugh in this efficient doomsday thriller."
-- Kirkus Reviews

" Relentless pacing and numerous plot twists drive this compelling stand-alone from Robinson... Thriller fans and apocalyptic fiction aficionados alike will find this audaciously plotted novel enormously satisfying."
--Publisher's Weekly

From the Author

Hope everyone enjoys this latest installment of the Jack Sigler thrillers. It's been seriously fun fleshing out the team's origins. When you're done, check out some of Sean Ellis's solo books. He brought some serious skills to PRIME. His Nick Kismett books are my favorites.
-- Jeremy Robinson

The latest edition of the Chess Team saga takes it back to before it all began - when Jack Sigler was known as "Elvis" and before he had ever met Stan Tremblay, Shin Dae Jung, Erik Somers, and Zelda Baker.

I'm not going to get into the plot on this review, suffice it to say that it is a classic Chess Team rollercoaster that has them travel over much of the globe while explaining the need for just such a team very well.

If you've never read a Jeremy Robinson book, particularly from the Chess Team series, this one is the first one in storyline order and serves as an excellent origins story. If you're a long time fan, this is another wild ride you've come to expect, with a few geek out moments thrown in - such as when "Elvis" becomes "King", and even moreso when Stan, Shin, Erik, and Zelda become "Rook", "Knight", "Bishop", and "Queen".

The introductions to each character are done very well indeed, and some classic moments that have never before been put in the books are revealed. Among them:

How does Stan get his Desert Eagles?
How do Zelda and Jack meet, and how does Jack gain Zelda's trust?
Who the hell is this "Richard" guy that seems to be financing the bad guys?

The most important question (as far as the future of Chess Team goes) is left unanswered:

How do the events of PRIME - the story of the beginnings of Chess Team - affect what long time fans know and expect to see in OMEGA - the story of the endings of Chess Team, coming out later this year? I have my suspicions, but at this point the only thing any of us other than Robinson and his coauthor for OMEGA, Kane Gilmour, know for sure:

No matter what happens, it will be one hell of a ride!

Ive been a fan of Jeremy Robinsons work, especially the Chess Team series, ever since I first stumbled upon Pulse last year, and this latest book in the series, Prime, did not disappoint.

This is an origin story, telling how the the Chess team first came together. We learn the impetus for forming the team in the first place, we discover the origin of one of the team members signature weapons and we witness the event (alluded to in future books) that earned King Queens respect and led to her joining the team. There was also a clever bit of foreshadowing with regards to one of the other recurring characters in the series, which for some reason didnt "click" with me until the morning after I finished the book. These sort of little details are exactly what you want to see in an origin story thats written after the books its meant to precede. Its like the authors little nod to the fans who are payig attention.

Prime also contains the other stuff youd expect from a Chess Team book - theres ancient mysteries, unnatural monsters, evil human villans trying to exploit the ancient mysteries for personal power, and crazy breakneck action abound.

Its funny, but despite the fact that Ive become a huge fan of Robinson, Ive delayed purchasing the last few of his released books because I didnt feel quite in the mood to read them for various reasons. I did this with SecondWorld, Island 731, Project Nemesis and finally with Prime. And for every single one of these books, as soon as I made the purchase and started reading, I couldnt put the book down until it was finished. From now on, Im just giving Jeremey the benefit of the doubt and just buy whatever he releases. Perhaps you should too :)

The amazing Chess Team go back to basics in this Robinson/Ellis collaboration where the reader can experience how the legendary (Delta) Delta team all came together.

Before Hydra, before the living skeletons and before any of the other strange situations the Chess Team have found themselves immersed in, there is Prime: A force powerful enough to wipe out the human race, and it's up to the newly formed Team, under the reluctant leadership of King to stop it.

During intense moments battling The Triad, human experiments gone wrong and the power of the Earth itself, these five people learn to look out for each other, forge the concrete foundation of trust and respect that is required to function as a unit, and weed out (most of) the bad guys.

If you've never read a Chess Team book, this is a great place to start; but if you've read them all (like me), this will sort of be like The Phantom Menace after A New Hope, except it won't suck and there aren't any inconsistencies to infuriate your intelligence.

Your Jeremy Robinson collection will NOT be complete without Prime.

A must read.

As someone who has read all of the Chess Team books, Prime was perfect!!! It tied up all of those questions that I had about the origins of the team. I read the book in a matter of a few days as I could not put it down. It lived up to everything I expect from Jeremy Robinson. I have read some of his other 1 off books and thoroughly enjoyed them as well. On to Omega from here and then I think I will start one of the other series from Mr. Robinson as he is now my go to author. Thank you for all of the great novels so far and please keep them coming!
