About the Author
Mark Hamilton is an associate professor of philosophy at Ashland University in Ashland Ohio where he has taught since 1981. He received a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Wittenberg University. He has individual masters’ degrees in Philosophy, Religion, and Counseling and a doctorate from Ashland Theological Seminary. Hamilton has served as chair of the philosophy department and has been the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative since 1998. He has published numerous chapters on sports ethics in Baseball and Philosophy; The Image of God in the Human Body; Basketball and Philosophy; Football and Philosophy; Theology, Ethics and Transcendence in Sports, The Ethics of Coaching Sports and his article on the ethics of surgical enhancement for athletic performance has been widely referenced. He has published numerous journal articles and presented papers at several international conferences. Besides ethics, sports ethics and medical ethics, he teaches courses in Philosophy of Religion, Ancient Philosophy, Christian Thought, and on C.S. Lewis. Hamilton is active in the International Association of Philosophy of Sport and in 2012 was the guest editor of an edition of the Journal of Philosophy of Sport; he continues on the editorial board of this journal. Hamilton is a founding elder of Providence Church, a family-integrated church in the Ashland Ohio area. In 2007 he survived a liver transplant. Mark has been married for 32 years to Pat; they have two grown daughters and sons-in-law and two grandchildren.
