5 out of 5 stars
The story Primogénito: The Fuentes Legacy by Greta Cribbs is a thrilling/mystery book that includes the paranormal/supernatural. It is a story that had me hooked from the first chapter and I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished the final page. This book had me wondering what was going to happen next and what would happen to those caught up in the events that are described. It is a story about those who commit evil acts and how they will do anything to further their own agenda. You read of how far some would go to ensure their survival. It is also a story of friendship, love, and self-sacrifice. It all began one night years ago that left not only physical but phycological scars on a group of friends. Now one of them has become ill. Could there be a connection between this illness and that night so many years ago? An investigation into the history of one of the friends family and secrets that have been kept through the years is started. This investigation is filled with danger. Will diaries that are filled with one of these friend’s family’s history lead to a solution for this illness? Would this solution come with a cost to those who use it? This is a story that had me on the edge of my seat and quickly turning pages. I loved reading about the characters of Ashley and Damian. Damian is a man who has always felt guilt over what happened those many years ago. He is determined to find a solution to what is happening to his friend. Ashley has a personal stake in this solution as it is her husband that is the one afflicted. Will good triumph over evil? This is an author who has written characters that I could empathize with what they were going through. I felt their emotions whether they were positive or negative. I have loved each story that I have read by this author and can’t wait to read what she writes next. This book does include sensitive subject matters and scenes of violence. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
I was really looking forward to reading this book, especially after reading the synopsis. But after reading the first pages I just couldn’t connect with characters or the storyline. I just couldn’t find anything captivating about this book, but then suddenly I found I just couldn’t put the book down, I read it one sitting and found myself completely and utterly drawn in to what was happening with the characters, the whole general storyline of all involved. It was as though a switch flipped in me and I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen.
This book was thrilling, suspenseful, dark, mysterious, emotional, heart-breaking, shocking with the added paranormal element entwined within the story.
This book was filled with twists and turns that you never expected, let alone leave you reeling, or even emotional heartbroken like the last twist in the story.
I like that we were learning new things along with the characters, learning the history of the Fuentes family, how far back their history goes and how deep and tormented they also get, you never realise someone as great, caring, lovable and kind like Damien could come from a family like that.
Another thing that stands out within this book are the relationships between our characters. Jenn and Damien not only have love on their side and are totally perfect for each other, but have a reliable relationship based on trust, friendship and strength drawn from each other. But the one relationship that stands out the most is Damien and Ashley, coming together after years apart their relationship goes back to how is always was. They looked to each other when things got bad, trusted each other and found strength in each other due to the past each of them faced. I know the whole basis of the story was because of the mysterious illness Ashley’s husband has, but I would have liked to see more of their interaction together either before or after the traumatic events that occurred. The Relationship between Ashley and Jenn had me at a loss, Jenn had a love hate relationship, and even though you learn the reasons why, it’s still confusing to me that it runs that deep for Jenn especially knowing if it wasn’t for Ashley she may never have gotten Damien back.
I’m glad though that in times of need they all called on each other, and after the horrendous events that broke my heart as well as the pain I could feel from the characters, that they all had each other.
This was an incredible gripping, mysterious and suspenseful read that I’m glad I got the chance to experience, and will look forward to seeing what else this author can bring.
