Story line looked really promising. Overall execution sucked. The book was not properly edited. It was put in points of view of each person yet would switch from ever other paragraph of the people. Meaning that it would switch from one person to one person to one person to a totally different person it's within 1 chapter of it saying it was under the first person I have never read a book so ill equipped with a storyline that I could not even follow it or understand what the author was trying to do. I think that if they could have done so much better it had so much promise on the story line yet everything was left undone I haven't even finished the book I've got 60% of the book and I have to stop reading it because it was stupid. And I had had this book on pre-order waiting for it to come out cuz it looks so good I am so upset that it was so horrible.
The premise is good but it's missing pieces. The world building was spotty. There's a modern world with all the amenities yet a werewolf and vampire show up out of the blue and never explained. Are humans accepting of other species? It wasn't explained. So no one knows anything about merman, not even Caspian, the merman. So when Tate found Caspian in his net, he acted like finding a human alive in a net when he thought he saw scales -- He shrugged it off as something of a hallucination. Yet no one else on that boat commented on finding a human in their nets. In the ocean. I mean that in itself was crazy.
The background on Caspian, his heritage, and people is missing. His dad wasn't very forthcoming so the backstory came in pieces. And the odd thing is Caspian doesn't make it a priority to figure it all out. I had more questions than answers.
Tate, Xavier and Jaden are all friends. When Tate discovers Caspian, due to circumstances beyond his control, he asks for help from Jaden and Xavier. They drop everything and come running then decide Caspian is the only omega for them. Overnight the three men, all alphas but not shifters agree that Caspian is theirs. It's quick yet there wasn't a group claiming -- No it was odd that the men all had individual time and of course Caspian was on board. I ended up skipping most of those pages but a quad's dynamics is usually attraction and action between all members. Nope, this reverse harem means Caspian is the lucky recipient.
I gave this one three stars because sometimes first books in a series aren't the best but the series builds on them. Read on KU. - Dan's Wife
Well written story that kept me reading and wanting more. Ends in a bit of a cliffhanger but with a taste of a happily for now. Definitely recommend.
